Devon Coast to Coast ride

For this years cycling/camping trip i am doing a much shorter ride as taking my son with me for the first time to see if he enjoys it.

Would be interested to hear from anybody having already done the Devon Coast to Coast ride from Ilfracombe to Plymouth, any info on the route would be most appreciated. I have the Sustrans map route to guide me but these trips usually throw up a few suprises,
