As someone who normally selects the cheapest available, clean-ish, hovel to stay in I'm entirely hopeless at finding nice hotels. Next month I need to book an impressive nights accommodation for a special evening away so I need recommendations for a quality hotel. Other than being within about a hours drive of Birmingham there aren't any requirements and even this is flexible.

Basically somewhere where you were totally wowed by how nice the rooms were is what I'm looking for.

Hotel Du Vin in centre of Birmingham is good. Stayed in their basic room on business and it is very nice - decent food too. Recently hired the Hotel Du Vin loft suite in Brighton on pleasure and that was absolutely spectacular (but pricey) so Birmingham's best suites should be good on that basis.

Cliveden House Hotel.
Danesfield House Hotel.
HdV Henley.
Or my fave at the moment, The Crazy Bear at Beaconsfield.
All within about 10 minutes of home for me!

You could probably do Stapleford Park in about and hour, quite special.

Agree with both of these, stunning places. I stayed in the "silver" suite at Beaconsfield and it was awesome, bit pricey but food was great!

How about Coombe Abbey?

Lots of great ideas- cheers guys. I'm loving that Crazy Bear place, even though it's a bit further away.

That looks good too. I clicked on the rates expecting them to be eye wateringly expensive but they're not too bad, relatively speaking.

Hyatt Regency in Brum itself is a lovely hotel, with really quite nice rooms.

Take a look at the Crazy Bear at Stadhampton too.
Closer to B'ham, jusy not quite as impressive as Beaconsfield.

Hambleton Hall is a fantastic place Took my wife there for her 40th birthday via Helicoper that picked us up from our paddock. It would be less than a hour from Brum using this method but a bit expensive if the heli had to wait over night smile

smile you are right We did not stay the night that visit But it was fantastic walking from the heli to take our seat on the terrance for a long lazy lunch and asking one of the waiters to pop a menu down to our pilot so he could choose a bite !

That is because it really is nowhere near the class of others mentioned here smile

If it's not too late, if you're heading to Broadway, I'd avoid this and go stay at Russell's with Rooms. Far more indulgent.
