Please keep this in the lounge for a bit before moving to Photography section.

OH has found this:

http://www.camerabox.co.uk/product1.asp?ProductNam...

except I have found this:

http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Camerabox_co_...

could it be that they are shifting a lot of cameras and some people do get the rough end of the deal but in the most they are ok or should I avoid and has anyone else come across this company.

Use this:

Camera Pice Buster

No saving, but loads of choice from reliable suppliers...

So they are only on there if they have a good reputation and they are all relatively safe to buy from?

as in this one?

I'm not sure of the details for inclusion on to the site, however it is the resource that seems to be most commonly quoted on the photo forums I use. Buyer beware and all that, but I've not heard a bad word about Wilkinsons. You're getting the benefit of a selection of physical stores if things do go awry.

Dont use Camerabox or any of its sister sites. Just google "Camerabox reviews" to find out why. Loads of dissapointed customers, not genuine UK stuff, thing not arriving etc etc. I almost made the mistake of using them a few years ago, but avoided them like th plaugue once i'd read reviews of them.

That was the OH's idea.

But Wilkinson has it at £360 all in so I will look there and as mentioned they have a good rep and other poster has not heard a bad word about them, unless you have?

I've used both Camerabox and Wilkinson, not got a bad word to say about either. Ordered Nikon Capture NX2 from Wilkinsons last week and it arrived in 2 days, great service.

+1

Used them in the past for my Nikon 17-35 and saved a bundle. Their prices are, however, a lot higher now due to the FX rate. I paid £718 for a lens which is now selling on their site for £1,081

Got my G11 through Crazy cameras, UK site, but the item came from the states, about 100 quid cheaper than UK shops at the time.

Having said that, they have a bad bad write up, I can only say mine arrived OK, so perhaps stick to a true UK supplier, like Jessops et al.

I have spent about 2 grand with Simply Electronics on gear this year who it turns out are another gray import company based in Hong Kong.

They also get slated on the net if you look for reviews, and although they are certainly slow to ship I got my latest order 2 weeks later (a nervous wait when I found out where they are)

It has certainly opened my eyes that just using comparison sites to find the best price may link to companies with UK phone numbers and prices, but all may not be what it seems. That is not to say these companies are scammers, but things can get tricky when it goes wrong.

I believe that is an address they use/used, possibly for returns. Dig around on their site and the Hong Kong address is listed. The orders are sent from a fulfillment company in Newbury, but my 7D had Asia cds in it so whether HM got the VAT ?...
