Afternoon,

I've got an itch, that needs scratching, well more a burning desire inside me that keeps telling me I need to work for myself.

I've set myself a opening date 18 months down the line of which by then I hope to have secured investment, have everything in place and be ready to open for business.

I'm struggling though, I've got the idea clear in my head and putting all down on paper now, however, the name of the business is where I start to fall.

I'm hoping if I give you guys a brief description of what exactly the business is focused around, you may be able to throw some ideas out there for me...

The business is as follows:
A cruise travel agency that focuses and specializes in the top end of the market such as Yachts of Seabourn, Silversea, Regent Seven Seas, Crystal and Cunards' Grills. We will be more of a 'value added' than a 'discount' cruise business which is one of the ways we differ from the rest. Eventually looking to end up as a tour operator and building tailor made packages. I'm trying to build a brand here, so I need something that says the following:

Professional
Class
Luxurious
Established

But also need to come up high in SEO as this will be our main stream of advertising...

So, what we've got so far?

NeverCompromiseTravel
Connoisseurs Cruise Club

Look forward to hearing your responses...

AAACruises.

Just kidding. I don't think much of NeverCompromiseTravel, and anything called "Club" will always suggest membership fees and so on.

If I were you, I'd get a Thesaurus and find one or two words that sum up my core values. I wouldn't make the name too specific to my product because if I diversify in the future, I'd either need a new name, or I'd have an incongruous one.

ETA: Isn;t SEO all about page content rather than domain name?

Doofus,

Thanks for your comments.

Regarding 'club' this is true, however, the biggest agent in the country regarding turnover for P&O, which is one of the most popular cruiselines for the mass market sector is Bolsover Cruise Club. The company I currently work for are 2nd behind them but still, nowhere near in terms of revenue. I think one of the biggest things agencies, especially online and contact centre based ones find difficult in customer retention, nowadays the cliental just do not seem to be loyal and often go with a cheaper alternative even if they only save £10-15, seems strange to me but such is life.

The idea of the club is purely and simply to make the previous customer feel like they're part of a 'club' where they will always be looked after, always given the best service as well as a competitive cruise rate, hence no reason to 'shop around' as such.

So many ideas floating around my head i'm starting to feel dizzy!

Having the word cruises in the url will help with SEO.

Looking at results for exclusive cruise in google, club seams to be a term used by a lot of other sites. Possibly the target market associates the word club with discounts?

I'd be tempted by a domain name like belmontexclusivecruises for short term SEO needs. Get a site up with a holding page and into google index asap, even if you dont plan on opening for business for 18 months.

Appropriately there's POSH which conveniently stands for 'port out starboard home', thereby giving the wealthier customer the best side for weather.

Then again perhaps Mrs Beckham has spoiled that one.

connoisseur blah blah, premier blah blah or platignum blah blah. (You may have to come up with the blah blah bit yourself as I dont think it will suffice as it is!)

Shorter the name, the easier it is to remember.

What one word conveys what you're trying to achieve?

Golden age of sea travel was around the turn of the century, what terms were in use at that time? For example, what's the natural opposite to 'steerage'?

That's the thought process I'd be going down. Two or three long words isn't going to stick in anyone's mind for long.

If you want an exclusive feel then call it something like "Fotherington Charters" or some posh name like that.

Anything else will be bland, meaningless and easily forgotten.

Definitely go down the Old sounding name route if you want to sound established

Look for old-english aristocratic surnames
Maybe names of classic transatlantic ships - Mayflower?
Global ports?
Colonial city names?

Stay away from Premier/Luxury/Platinum etc etc just screams "trying to look expensive but are actually cheap" like a faux-leather sofa.

A cruise business aimed at the wealthier end of the market? I think you should call it "Plutocrasea"

When choosing a name, its a good idea to also think how you could design a logo around it. If you have a wordy long name that helps with SEO, it will probably look awful incorporated into a logo.

As cruise and club are likely to be expensive keywords for a PPC campaign, maybe use words like "charter" which has connotations of luxury- yachting-etc. for established feel definately go with aristocratic double barrelled type name, with symetry that can be initailised into a logo, such as CoburnsOriginalCharter, or COC.comsmile

I assume that your average sale price will be quited expensive. Have you looked into the costs of complying with the PTR regs, bonds, trust accounts etc?

First Class Cruises

I'd also second the double barrelled old fashioned name theme. Extolling the long lost luxury of cruises when you needed a massive trunk to hold all the evening clothes, a butler to iron and lay them out, and the peasants in steerage to give up their lifejackets for the ladies.

Cheers,

Tony

Gents,

Many thanks to all who have taken the time to respond.

I'm still working on things, brainstorming with others to see what we can come up with.

I'll be sure to let you all know once I've found 'the one'.

Thanks.

Imo I would include Charters in the name rather than anything else.

It gives a far more individual feel to the solutions and packages you offer.
