What would you folks recommend on charging the Desire? Straight away charge it or use it until battery is flat then charge it?

It really doesn't make much difference.

Not in these days with battery technology being what it is. Just stick it on charge and take it off when you're going out.

I'd straight away charge it until it is fully charged, but have it on an play with it whilst it is doing it. Probably no good reason to do so, but I don't see any harm in it!

After the first charge I wouldn't worry about running it down etc, I just stick mine on charge every night when I go to bed and a full charge lasts until the next night.

You will probably notice that the battery gets better over the first week or so though, not sure why, but most owners have noticed the same.

Cheers Mr Will.

Do I need to charge it for a certain period on the first charge? Like 12 hours? sometimes people recommend charging it even if it is fully charged in an hour!

I think the official advice is until the LED turns green, but I wouldn't worry too much if you have to unplug it before then. With modern batteries it should make any difference either way.

I did this, plugged it in, played with it while charging and then left it to charge overnight. Easily get a day's use out of it now, unless I use the satnav.

Charged mine straight away. Took around and hour as it was already 2/3rds full.

Be warned!! Battery will be awful for a couple of days and not great for the first week. Persevere and DO NOT resort to task killers to help battery life. If it gets bad, turn the screen brightness down, don't use live wallpapers and make sure all your widgets/emails etc aren't syncing every few minutes
