Following on from the Are you a cufflink wearer? thread.

If you are wearer of smart tailored shirts, is it appropriate to have an embroidered monogram these days? If so, where is the best place for it; breast, cuff or above beltline?

By monogram I mean discreet (half-inch or less), initials only in complimentary thread. Large, full names/words in contrasting thread are garish and always inappropriate IMHO.

Thoughts?

Only if you also have a monogrammed handkerchief folded in your jacket pocket...

I think it looks daft but that's just my opinion & it's not for me, it's for the wearer.

It's no indicator of a "bespoke" service as plenty of "off the peg" shirt companies offer this service.

Depending on the exact nature of the stock in your used car lot, it is either very naff, or extremely naff.

No. Having your name sewn into your clothing is only really acceptable if you're a small child or a sports competitor.

If you must have your initials on a shirt (and the only legitimate reason I can think of is to avoid mix ups at the cleaners) then below the beltline seems appropriate.

I would never where a mongram shirt, on the rare occasion I see one it reminds me of Dell boy.

I dont need strangers to know my initials.
