Laned line contracts

I mooved the business land lines away from BT years ago and the company I went with were baught out and it has run on and on. I am now reviewing everything and may want to change. The company are now saying I can only exit on the renewal date without paying a seriouse exit fee. the original term ended several years ago. I seem to remember an old piece of law that says you can not be commited because of failure to sign a new contract.
Anyone able to help.

Would need to know more of the contract details regarding renewal and exit before giving any valid advice.

I've see loads of these contracts and they are pretty robust. There's a cancellation window but if notice isn't served it continues for another 12 months. Nothing you can do, it's not a new contract you have already agreed to the terms.

Most of these outfits are up for a deal though so I suggest shopping round and then asking current provider to match in return for a two year deal. Just make sure you give notice next time.
