Wild Wadi lazy river (and the whole water park actually) is awesome. Next to the Jumeirah Beech Hotel, Dubai.

will have a look...

but we are looking at slow, smooth, easy, soothing, rather than raging rapids spin

Love lazy rivers and rubber rings! Most relaxing time, as long as there aren't a load of kids swimming under you and tipping you up! All Disney waterparks have one. That Marriott One is nice, is that at the Marriott World Centre?

Kalahari Resort, Wisconsin Dells, U.S.A.

They've one indoors, that massive, and another outdoors that's almost as big.

I spent HOURS drifting along when I was there in August. thumbup

dont think so, its the JW one where the president stays when in Orlando, its relatively small for a business hotel with its Lazy river being very secluded and quiet (was when we were there)

Have looked at your suggestions guys but they are all theme park based, huge and very child orientated.

After more luxury hotel or Spa based ideas in an attempt to gain a more relaxing atmosphere....

Do you have a theme?

I have been on a few around the globe, but nothing that stood out as exceptional. However, I did find that all of them were roughly the same width and that made it nearly impossible to get past anyone if you wanted to or if they fell out. Perhaps a wider slipway would be an idea or even pools where folk could float gently out of the current at intervals if they wanted.

It is in rural france so theme will be non tropical, and more inland river based (which is different to most we have experienced) quite natural, mute colours, rope border, non tropical plants, maybe an old rowing boat, lobster pots, and other river paraphernalia (fishing rods etc), all quite low level as we dont want it to be to overpowering.

It wont be massive probably covering an area of about an acre, along with your suggestion, there will be 2 or 3 beach type areas where people can just roll around cooling off, the amount of people would be a max of 20 at any one time so crowding should not be a problem, children will be on a short leash biggrin

Marvellous. Let me know when it's finished and I'll persuade the Mrs to have a driving holiday towards your part of the world.

On a sensible note I think your idea of keeping the area the ride flows through as simple and uncomplicated is a winner. To me the idea of these sort of rides is on relaxation rather than "ooh, look at that" biggrin

If you can't be arsed to leave your hotel to go to the activity pool, you could always try this little place.

We spent 10 nights there a while back. A bit pricey in reality, but a very good hotel, pool / lazy river arrangement, in fact couldn't fault it at all - and the water lift inside the rocks is quite an unusual feature too. The rest of Maui is amazing too.

A hotel I have not been to, but some say is quite good for water based activity is the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. I was due to go to a few years ago but had to cancel. I guess the one in Dubai is much the same, might have a look at that at some stage.

much more of the ambience, sadly none of the video depict a Lazy river, or none that I can see, definite step in the right direction.

the more and more I look I'm starting to think that the JW in Orlando was pretty much on the money, we hardly left the hotel on that trip, & there was plenty to tempt us out, got to tell you something....

The videos do not seem to show the stream I mean. I am not so up on the terminology, so maybe I have it wrong.

Picture 3 of 9 in the picture tour shows a little bit of what I think you mean by a lazy river. You just float and a gentle current flows moving you along the track of water. To the right of pic 3 shows a little bit of safe rapids that you are transported to as you move along the artificial river. It's slow enough so you can dip out and swim into a cave for a cocktail at the bar etc.

Essentially, there are also a lot of small pools interlinked by small slides, or you can skip the pools, and take the large slide right from the top pool into the big activity pool where you can get the water lift back to the top pool. The hibiscus pool is strictly not a playground. Ocean is really good too with decent waves and wind when we went there (July time) and a half sunken volcano out at sea makes a great spectacle for sunsets from your room - and a really good scuba venue with orgnaised trips out there.

From memory, I think our room was only a little bit up market from the standard rooms at about 1200US$ a night, but it was a nice view. The suites were 25,000US$ a night - they must get some very rich people there. They do tend to have weddings and corporate parties on too which depending on your view can add to the fun, or spoil it.

If you want to do something slightly different on Maui in the water, take the road to Hana. As that cliffside road enters forest, there are freshwater river falls into natural pools. You can just dump the car, and jump in the pool and mess about under the waterfall. You can also buy banana cake and pineapple from roadside sellers to keep your energy up en route to Hana.

I'd go back in a heartbeat, only problem is that it is the price of a reasonable car to do so, and a lot more to stay alive out there and enjoy the variety that the island has to offer.

The lazy river at Blizzard Beach is quite good, slightly different is the one at Aquatica which forces the water round faster and doesn't use tubes, more body surfing style

that looks an epic place, some great shots we could take some snippets from and some great descriptive wording around the different attractions.

Quite like the idea of a tunneled section to the river with maybe some subtle lighting, could be combined with an overhead walkway to the centre island scratchchin difficult to avoid being a little tacky though, will think on that one...

got a layout sorted biggrin

each of the circular sections are beach areas, one allocated to each of the dwellings, obviously plants, theme, lighting waterfalls etc are to follow but we have mown the pattern into the field and it seems to work when walking round, gives about 80m of river and each of the beaches are about 18 square meters.

We were there last week .....

The rapids were incredibly good fun, the lazy river at aquatica was quite possibly a complete and utter waste of time, as were the dolphin plunge tubes. All hype and no use. Rest of the park was great though.

Its difficult to decide between blizzard beach and typhoon lagoon - both are good, possibly prefer blizzard though.
