I can really see Real Madrid playing hoofball with a Kevin Davies like target man up top. He done well for what he had to work with at Bolton and Blackburn, but when he got his chance at Newcastle, who were a bigger club at the time, he blew it. I hope he never gets the England job.

Offering a little bit the other way (not much, but a bit), managing the Newcastle comedy club at the time was a task few, if any, would succeed at and let's face it, a decent proportion of the successful 'name' managers of recent times have hardly played the beautiful game (Mourinho, Capello, Benitez, Lippi and probably quite a few others).

Chelsea, for example, weren't known as a rich man's Bolton for no reason & it isn't that often that teams play attractive football purely as a result of the manager as opposed to abundance of cash, ethos or luck in terms of available players at the time. 'Tis a results business at the end of the day.

As a little example, Pellegrini played great football with less than stellar name players at Villareal and presumably tried to do the same at Real Madrid, which should have been much easier given the available resources (in theory!!!). However, he didn't win La Liga or Big Cup (both was probably the target he was really set), so got the archer and Maureen got his chair. The man scored 96 points in a season and still got the boot!

Still think he's a little deluded, mind.biggrin
