Just ran Crystal Disk Info on one of my computers and its flagging up an error with the disk:

"Reallocated sectors count" seems to be the problem area in the SMART check

Haven't come across this before, is it a false warning or am I going to need to get it replaced? The hard drive is 18 months old so still under warranty.

Possibly on the way out so check your backup strategy ASAP.

It could be that that utility (I'm not familiar with it) is looking at file states and is getting upset about some file states following a system or application crash. I'd run it again in a couple of days and if it flags up more problems then the drive is on it's way out.

Download Seatools from the seagate site, it will tell you if it needs returning and how to RMA it.

back up. 18 months old - I've lost drives at this age, they don't make them like they used to.

Just ran Seatools and it passed the SMART check and Short DST, odd. Will do a full backup over weekend.

They've also got POWERMAX - works with most drives -
