I am looking for a USB 2 device which can allow me to connect devices between two computers (a Linux server and a port replicator for my laptop).

Does anybody use such a device at the moment that has proven reliable with a USB keyboard and mouse?

I have found a Lindy device which looks suitable, but have read of problems with keyboards and mice with other devices.

If I've understood your post correctly...

Ages ago I was looking into something similar, sharing USB devices between two computers (3G Modem in my case), I seem to remember coming across a piece of software that would 'replicate' the device using TCP/IP making it look like the device was plugged in locally when in fact it was plugged in to another machine somewhere else on the network.

Can't remember exactly what it was now, but if this is the kind of thing you are talking about let me know and I'll have a dig back through my notes.

I don't remember it doing keyboard and mouse, though surely there must be USB KVM switches around if that is all you want.

I assume i've misunderstood that, as it sounds insane! You want the inputs from a keyboard and mouse to be sent to two computers simultaneously?

Job for a KVM switch i'd have thought.

Not at the same time, I want to switch USB devices between two PCs, similar to a KVM switch without the monitor.

1 Keyboard, 1 Mouse.

2 Computers.

Alternate which computer receives the keyboard/mouse input by means of a switch box rather than physical unplugging them and swapping them over.

The USB sharing switches are normally for sharing printers/scanners etc.

This is designed to do the job you want, and it's not exactly expensive ...
