I recently made a dinosaur cake for my son (pics to follow)

Anyway i encountered a few probs that i need help with in the future.

1) I used ready to roll royal icing but found it kept sticking despite using icing sugar on my table and rolling pin

2) when joing bits of my cake together how to get get a smooth finish on the icing joins?

3) I just placed my icing ontop of the cake directly. should i have used something else?

4) I wanted to make cupcakes too with buttercream swirly pipped ontop but the simple icing bag from tescos didnt have a pipe big enough, where can i buy such a thing?

Righty. This is something I know a little about.

1) Don't use icing sugar. Use cornflour. Icing sugar makes it go sticky. Also, did you knead it until the edges were smooth and not cracked? You MUST do this.

2) What do you mean by icing joins? Where were you joining it? If the icing is nice and pliable then you should be able to massage it to a nice finish - cake smoothers are really good bits of kit.

3) Yes, a thin layer of buttercream for sponges, apricot jam for fruit.

4) Contact me, I sell them

Hope that helps smile
