What options are there on copying an old VCR tape onto computer? I've got a few ideas but using the hardware/software I've got is ambit long winded and I suspect wouldn't produce great results. Thanks.

The only way to do it is with a tv tunercard or similar with an analogue input. There used to be graphics cards around with an input like this too but I haven't seen one for a while. It is sadly then a case of hitting play on the vcr and record on the software and will take as long as the video is in time. Longer is you then want to encode it into something smaller. You can of course take it into your high street camera shop and let them do it for you, for a fee.

Video/audio out from VCR to DVD recorder. Play tape and record onto DVD, then rip DVD to PC using handbreak or similar.
that way you have a backup copy on DVD and a copy on your HD

Considering one of these, as the VCR died a while back.

Anyone tried one?

Cheers. That's more what I was hoping for. Although a DVD recorder also makes sense too but I don't have one of those either.
