Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson caused offence when he described a car as "speciale needs" - a play on its proper name, Ferrari F430 Speciale.

Media regulator Ofcom investigated after receiving two complaints.

However, it did not censure the BBC as the broadcaster had deleted the comment from repeats and the iPlayer version, and apologised for causing offence.

TWO complaints! So what next? a programme that is KNOWN for non PC jokes will not be allowed to offend fatties? short people? bald people? People who were born in 29th of february, ginger people, people with a lisp? come on! he wasn't even referring to anything that is untrue. Do people with a down syndrome always look like they are smiling? - YES!
Are fat people bigger than slim people? - YES
Are short people always looking up at taller people? -YES

So why is a comparison that is actually true, cut out? The car looks like a down in his opinion. nothing more nothing else. what's teh big deal?

There isn't a big deal, which is why the BBC weren't censured.

Shock horror! People complain about things! The ridiculous thing is that this story is on the BBC website. It's hardly newsworthy that some people get offended by stuff and complain.

What I don't get is that dozens of people complain about Legard after every F1 race and nothing happens - two people complain about Clarkson and there is instant action?

Ah but Clarkson is hated by the left leaning intellectuals who are the people who run the media in general, Legard is just not very good on tv but not right or left wing.
My wife's family hate Clarkson so much they refuse to read or watch anything he does, and then if they do catch it they sit there tutting and complaining, one of them would happily of picked up the phone. All the time they are not seeing that they are being just as intolerant as they claim he is. Irony is often lost in the intellectual salons they occupy in their heads.

The thing that boils my piss about this is why should I (the taxpayer) have to pay for such a meaningless inquiry?

Out of the millions that watch it they get 2 complaints. Common sense should dictate that it is a total no event, and that the resources would be better used elsewhere.

Jobsworths, the lot of them.

They ought to introduce a minimum level of say a percentage of the audience. Eg you need 0.5% of the shows average audience to trigger the process.

Two complaints out of 4 million viewers is just crazy. I bet they weren't even watching it at the time.

Sorry, it can't be a credible point if you don't use the correct form.

Seriously? Thats your defence?

If they made it in brown could it call it a Special ?

While the joke is no big deal it is in poor taste and people are free to say so.....to "defend" it as some sort of statement of fact and not a joke is weak at best.

I am not defending the joke, but a principle. It should be disallowed to get offended at st like that or rather you can get offended, but your complaint should not be enforced in any way.

your example does not exactly comapre since it is racialist and the term itself is dergoatory.

so yes if they made it with a widebody kit they could call it Royale with cheese
if they made it in white polka dots, they could call it Head & speciale
and if they made it like the core of the batmobile, they could call it speciale anorexic

One of the problems of starting threads with teaser titles is that someone else will come along and start a thread on the same subject and be accused of reposting. Put the bloody subject in the title FFS!

Did you know about this problem before you got married or does your wife have massive knockers?

As much as political correctness has to answer for, stupid comments like that sort of show why it exists in the first place... Instead of just being sensible and using common sense in regards to what people are inevitably going to get riled up about, they do it anyway knowing that mental health and learning difficulties will always cause upset to some people and then deplore the state of affairs if they get their bums smacked like little children.

That said, the subsequent enquiry seems excessive from reading the article.
