I went here last night www.brilliantrestaurant.com with some colleagues who were over from the US and doing some work in the area. Every bit as good as the name suggests, very good value and well worth a visit to Southall for! Anyone else been? I gather it's had rave reviews and been featured on Gordon Ramsay etc.

Does anyone else have any "must visit" curry house recommendations either?

Gordon Ramsay had these guys on his "Best of British" show a few weeks back.

They seemed to like putting the freshly grilled tandoori meat in warmers so they weren't too fresh when they were served. I hope they've sorted this out, as I'd love a trip to the Brilliant oen day soon.

One of the American guys had the grilled tandoori chicken last night, which was lovely and tender. He didn't like the "gravy" on the curries though, the big wuss smile

Try a place called Karahi Express. They have a handful of places now in Slough, Hayes and the original in Hounslow West.

All the stuff for the tandoor is freshly cooked and most of the currys are done by chefs behind a glass screen. Me and my mates have been going for the last 10 years or so since we were 13! We stuff ourselves and it's never more then £15 each, they have Cobra on tap and you can bring your own spirits.

Service can be a little erratic and food can take a while to come, but it's worth it. The food isn't refined, but it is packed full of flavour!

Southall does have some excellent places smile

ALso worth a trip to equally salubrious Wem-ber-ley for Gujarati at somewhere like Marus Bhajii house.

And south to glorious Tooting the Sri Lankan places (but maybe a bit hot for some) to somewhere like the Appollo.

Mmmmm, had some of the thin Marus potato bhajia last week, absolutely awesome.

If you are in Wembley, Sakonis also does a decent buffet which is generally tasty and well cooked. Up the other end of Ealing Rd, Chennai Dosa is also worth a go for dirt cheap and pretty authentic South Indian food.

<wonders how long it will take him to get from Kingswood to Wemberley>

OOo, yes. Chennai Dosa has a few places, used to go to the West Croydon one. If you spent more than £10 you would need a forklift truck to take you back to the office.

Wembley / Gujarati food?

Is Chetnas still around?

Wife and I used to make regular detours just to visit when we lived down Sarf, years ago.

Little India in Arnesby is pretty good. Well priced considering how good it is. But if you're going to Edinburgh Kebab Mahal is a must!!! It may be a humble takeaway, but it has the best chicken tikka masala in the world.

Hi H_Kan,

that's a real shame. It used to be one of my favourite all time restaurants; cheap, excellent food and the place had a real buzz about it. You would often have to queue outside on a Friday or Saturday night.

Any recommendations for similar food? vegetarian / Gujarari?
