I just bought this game for only a few £s from Amazon - one of the reasons I bought the retail version is the fact I am still at my parents (should move into new house in a couple of weeks...), and they have no internet, not even a phone line, so I am having to use the hugely expensive BT Openzone wireless network at almost £40 per month (although bandwith seems to be restricted - the more you use, the quicker the time limit dwindles, so if I downloaded the dgame, that 'month' would be about 24 hours)

So, I insert the game DVD into my PC, starts to install and then, over to Steam, which wants to download the WHOLE game, and not use the DVD! I have tried stopping this, or seeing if there's a way to install from the DVD only, but apparently not.

I have two choices then; download the game from Steam now, which will cost at least £80 in internet access fees, or wait a couple of weeks! Bit annoying - I can understand installing from the DVD and then Steam downloading updates for it, haven't a problem with that, but downloading the entire 5gb of files is silly!

I didn't even know this game needed Steam to play, too, silly me.

Is there no way around this?

Cheers

One of the reasons I've stopped gaming on the PC. I hate steam, I hate punkbuster, and I hate the other similar copy protection systems that exist. They just don't work properly and there is no one you can turn to when they've stopped working apart from some terrible online forums that usually are next to useless.

I've lost game saves from Fallout 3, Alienswarm no longer works, and I've lost my Stalker saves too.
