After helping minime with his Concorde Airfix kit, I have got the bug again after nearly 30 years.

Just bought a 1/32 scale ford escort airffix starter kit and am a little let down by how difficult I am finding it to put together frown

Perhaps I'm not being patient enough but I have spent nearly 9 hours making the engine parts match somewhere near before assembling.

Am looking at just banging it together, giving it to minime, and buying something different, quite like aeroplanes so may go down that avenue.

Before jumping into the realms of a plane kit, are there any pointers that the knowledgable massive can give to get a quality kit for a born again novice.

Any advice gratefully recieved.
Dave.

Edited to add these pics, the painting is not good by any means, and as said I am now just putting it together to give to minime.

Hmmm, Airfix putting a 1969 vintage kit into a nice new 2010 box? This is precisely why I can't take Airfix seriously, you just don't know where you are with them.

I've said it many times before on here: don't be fooled into thinking a cheap kit is necessarily a good starter kit. IMHO the time, money and effort expended on a cheap kit will almost always exceed that spent in total on a quality kit (particularly with the 'effort' bit!). The money you spend on materials will be similar, but the end result will almost certainly be better with the more expensive model.

I'd go for any Tamiya model that takes your fancy. It will go together beautifully, and you will at least have something nice to look at for your efforts, and hopefully encourage you to go further.

And remember, adivce is worth what you paid for it wink

Sir I value your advice, and have seen your work, and may I say it is outstanding!!!

So its not me thats the catalyst to a rubbish build on this then?

Tamiya, I didn't realise that they were in the airfix style model market,I know of the remote kits but not this type.

Should I be looking at any particular scale that would make life easier for me on my first attempt, I realise time is the esscence to a good build.
Thanks for the advice on Tamiya Dave.

Patience young Padawan.. wink

As bugs go, it is catching. I made my 1st model with my 10 year old son a year or so back, now I'm in & out of model shops like a kid in a sweet shop. smile

Currently working on a Tamiya 1:32 Messersmchitt 109E, this will go well with my previous 1:32 Spitfire build.

Thanks for the compliment!

Tamiya make R/C models, but also static scale models:

Take your pick!

ETA, have a look at the 1:72 scale aircraft, they'll be fairly cheap. Some are re-boxed kits form other manufacturers, but if it's got Tamiya on it, it should be fine. Have a look for an online review of whatever you choose before you buy it. Good Luck!

The new tool Airfix Spitfire Mk1a (A01071A) is a very nice 1/72 it to start off with.
Picked one up at Telford for under 4 quid. Easy to build and then get on with doing a nice paint job. It even comes with realistic squashed tyres.
