So 3 months ago I changed my ISP, originally had a BT line, BT phone & Virgin ADSL Broadband.

Decided to goto Orange, as I had just got a mobile with them and was offered a good deal for home phone & broadband package, my 1st mistake!, now I am suffering terrible connection issues (lag, ping etc).

So looking to the PH massive for some recommendations, will get the phone line sorted myself, but who to use for a good ADSL service, I know I'm only going to get about 2mb due to being in a village out and beyond. But want a consistant service.

Very rarely stream video or download music, films. Occasionally use Iplayer/4OD or similar, maybe once or twice a month. BUT do alot of online gaming and this is where Orange are failing badly, I need an ISP who is going to maintain a quality connection even between 1900-2200hrs in the evening (when most of the PH gamers are on).

Thanks for your help smile

A&A. If Be are in your local exchange you can get the connection over the BT line via the Be network with them (which may allow ADSL2 and Annex M even if BT aren't offering it where you live yet). Also, the people in their support department understand stuff and don't read from a script. However they are expensive, so this discourages a lot of people.

I agree. I was with Plus Net and peak/non peak restrictions were extremely frustrating.

Do you use these guys? I've just been checking them out. I need an IPStream product because my exchange is still not LLU enabled, so I have few options. My usage is fairly high, because I work from home, so my peak traffic is pretty high. I also use iPlayer and the xbox online quite a lot (never download P2P stuff though).

Everything out there seems really restricted on the non-LLU stuff. I get 832 up/8132 down today, so need to find someone offering the same upload. Xilo seem to have a package, but it's not very clear what their monthly limit covers. I'd need the 80gb one for about 35 quid a month (double what I pay today with UKOnline:-( )

That. Went from Virgin to Be. And went from 40kb download (yes that's less than dial up and "no sir there's no problem"), to 10Mb download in one easy step.

Not the cheapest, but customer service like no other. Happy customer for over 3 years.

Another vote for Be.

Currently waiting on BT Infinity but perfectly happy to go bonded with dual Be lines if I'm waiting much longer (was meant to be in months ago)

yes I was with BT then Virgin who both promised a speed of about 6 but never went above 3 on a good day. Changed to BE about 10 months ago & now get a constant 9.5ish

Go here and type in your postcode:

http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search

It will tell you what services and providers are available from your local exchange - use it to pick the best service.

Sort I've not been back

Yeah I'm with xilo, there superb. You get great customer service and a very good connection. If you have any questions, give them a phone (it'll be answered within a few rings and is normally a real person. If its not urgent post on the forums you'll still get a quick reply

Well after another month of Orange saying 'we will get it sorted', 'give us a chance to get it sorted' etc spoke to one of there tech people yesterday who said all the problems were sorted Tuesday and the job has been signed off. Rang them back today after all the same problems arose last night to be told that they were still looking into and needed another 24hrs.

When I challenged them (politely) why I had been lied to 24hrs earlier they said they would put me through to a team leader, who said there was nothing more they could do, I would need to ring back in 24hrs and hung up on me!

A little riled I rang back and got a lovely lady from up north (only the 2nd person in 3 months that I've spoken to that was uk based!) Account will be closed, no more chances and this months bills credited.

Now back to an alternative, tried Be.There but they don't cover my area, so going to go back through everyone elses recomendations too. Strangely someone at work suggested Royal Mail, UK based customer service & Tech support and very reliable (alledgedly), in the meantime thanks for the suggestions so far and if anyone has any more please let me know.
