Hi, I've just given my website a bit of a make-over and made it compatible with the iPhone. Please let me know what you think.

ETA link is in my profile

Hi Mike.

Looks pretty good on my laptop - only thing I would add would be arrows either side of the image to make flicking through your portfolio a bit easier than having to click the thumbnail at the bottom.

It's a wee bit ropey on the iPhone to be honest. The top of the title on the homepage is chopped off which doesn't look too great. I'm getting the message for non-Flash users - as will all iPhone users - so I wouldn't call it compatible ? Also the 'home about contact' links are a bit too close together for easy clicking on the phone screen. (In fact I'm now wondering if I was directed to the correct site at all ?).

Cheers, DD.

Cheers DD, yeah that's the right site. I know it's not obvious, and you wouldn't know unless you found out by accident, but you can just click on the photo itself to scroll to the next one which makes it a bit more user friendly I think.

Ok, I shall add a bit of space between the 'home about contact' links for iPhone users. I see what you mean in that 'compatible' might not be the right word, but what i meant is that i have made it so that iphone users can still see my portfolio (whereas they didnt used to be able to on my last site)

Mike maybe I'm being a tube (always a possibility!) but if I click on the main pick on the home screen (on an iP4) all I get is the thumbnail list ?

Ah - now I see, once I select a thumbnail from the list then I can click the pic to move through biggrin I guess it would be more obvious if you could click on the main image on the home screen and start scrolling through but maybe that's tricky ?

Great pics though which is the main thing !

Yeah that would be better, and that's how it works if you visit using a computer (or something that allows flash) but i couldnt quite work out how to make it like that without flash, so iPhone users etc actually have a slightly different gallery to flash users. Im only self-taught in web design, and not very well at that! thanks for the feedback though, much appreciated smile

Clicking on the pic to move through the portfolio is a really neat way of doing it but I genuinely didn't notice that on my first visit (I think my cursor was over to the side and I didn't notice the pic itself was clickable).

Good work though especially for a DIY site thumbup

Good work. On my MacBook with a res of 1280x800 I get scroll bars on the side and bottom. I can't see the thumbnails without scrolling down. Not sure why there is a bottom scroll bar as everything is centred.

I wanted the pictures to be quite large for viewing purposes so thats why you might have to scroll down to see the thumbnails. Im not too sure why the bottom scroll bar appears - it seems to happen whenever i make a website regardless of how wide it is.

I just noticed it is displayed slightly differently on safari too, the background to the logo is showing which shouldnt happen. ill edit that tonight.

Hi Mike

On Chrome, IE & FF it took a while on our slow link for anything to appear, I just had a blank page with your logo at the top. You might need a "please wait" animation for something to stop people giving up. I also got the bottom scroll bar on all three.

On Opera I'm not getting any flash version and it's a bit confusing as it says "Non-Flash users click the image to see portfolio" as I was wondering for a while what I was expecting to see,

The pictures look nice and large with no distracting watermarks.

just my 2p

Thanks size13. A 'please wait' animation is a good idea, just need to find out how to implement that. Hmm, not sure why the flash gallery wont show on Opera, ill have to look into it. Cheers

Maybe if there is no flash detected it should take you straight to the html version without the "click image"

Well thats pretty much how it is set up. Initially you go on the HTML version of the homepage, and if Flash is detected it takes you to the Flash version of the homepage. If no Flash is detected you will stay on the HTML version with the "click image".
