i've bought a handset to replace my knackered old one (i'm a bit of a luddite with phones) but when i put my card in it asks for another code after my pin.

the phone is a nokia model 2730c (has a camera and everything!) and my card is an orange one.

please can anyone help, i'm not a scammer or up to anything iffy, just need to use it as my old phone fell apart (too much exposure to thinners, filler, oil, brake cleaner, etc).

all help greatfully received!

You need to enter a network unlock code, it means it is locked to a network other than the one you are trying. Some websites claim to be able to do it for free (I am suspicious) or lots of shops can do it for about £10.

It is possible to contact the network it is locked to but they will probably charge. I'm sure a techy person with the right software would be able to do it but if you don't know one then you will probably need to pay.

Ive used one of them website, it was only £5, so i thought id risk it, and to my suprise it worked, this was a couple of years ago & it was on a nokia 2100 that id got for £20 while my other phone was being repaired.

No don't think so, check what tye go for on ebay. £20 sounds a fair price providing it works ok.

If you want to PM me the IMEI number (dial *#06# to get it) I'll see what I can do for you.

Just know a few people (legitimate surprisingly) who may be able to generate an unlock code.
