What's up with my washing machine?
Discussion
Anyone good at knowing what is wrong with washing machines just by listening to it?
It seems to work fine however has this awful noise when it is draining.

Any ideas?

It makes the noise only when it drains and not when the drum spins so it must be the drain.
I have a waste pipe at the bottom on the back but this doesn't come off - do I unscrew the back panel and have a look in there?
Yes, but before you do, unplug the machine, it can hurt otherwise. They are fairly simple things, the drain pump shouldn't be difficult to find.I have a waste pipe at the bottom on the back but this doesn't come off - do I unscrew the back panel and have a look in there?
oh dear a ste Merloni clone.
Unusual for something to make its way past the filter and into the pump on this one but it is what it sounds like.
Its unplug, back off, tilt machine forward slightly so you can get a washing up bowl under the rear right hand corner, 2 x 10mm bolts under the pump and 2 hose clips each end of the pump (catch splilt water in said bowl), pull the 2 wires off and remove pump. Shake out whatever may be inside. (although tilting the machine may have moved it into the hose) or unscrew (or maybe a twist fit depending on pump) the pump housing from the pump motor and dismantle. If the pump impellor has come loose and making the noise then its a new pump required.
You wont have any trouble finding a new one, despite the maker having gone bust! search for Servis/Electra/ Diplomat/Merloni..... as they are all the same. dont pay more than £25.

Thanks for the guide - spot on! I opened up the pump and the prop was loose, stuck it back on and seems to work ok (still a little bit noisy but ok for now)
Going to have a google for a new pump and hopefully it will be like new!
Thanks
