i dont mind the odd one - nice n relaxing.

castella from the midi sized i've tried seem to be the best.

dont have many of the full-size cuban monsters!!

I used to love an occasional cigar until the rules in life insurance got progressively tighter. About 10 years ago IIRC, you were allowed a handfull a year - birthdays, wedding, Christmas etc. - but I got the distinct impression that all that went out of the window.

I am in no way a connoisseur but, up to that point, the favourite I'd tried was bought for me by my OH and was a Honduran, Dom Ramos. Don;t know why, but it was subblime, better than any Cohiba or Romeo y Juleita I'd tried.

Since packing in cigars, the smeel, especially outdoors on a warm day, drives me mad. I also get very strong hints of the flavour from decent, strong coffee, but it's no substitute. A good cigar used to be a nice way to relax.

I'm enjoying some Cohiba Siglo's at the moment, but I'm far from a connoisseur.

In this weather I find it hard to relax outside for the time taken to enjoy one in it's entirety. Roll on summer evenings.

I'm exactly the same. I'd happily sit outside all evening with a bottle of decent whisky and a nice Monte Cristo.

I've tried the dom ramos and indeed it is a fine fine cigar. its getting harder though to get hold some of the finer stuff with the smokers market dwindling. dont trust the stuff they sell online with the amount of fakes circulating.

I'm the same with my pipe.

Cigar wise, I enjoy the odd R&J, but my regular is the Cafe Creme Filter Arome. Ok, so they are officially a 'mini' but quality wise I think they are great. One of my favourite times of the day is just before 9am on a Saturday during the shooting season. Glass of Sloe Gin/Port etc and a cafe creme. Lovely. Last opportunity to do it this Saturday. Roll on the summer indeed!

Picked up some Cohibas, Romeo Juliets, Monte Cristos and Guantanameras last year in Cuba mostly half churchills as I find the others take far to long to smoke tbh. We bought them mainly for our wedding next year but I've been enjoying a few of the Cohibas...

Have 3 remaining San Cristobal Muralla's from last Summer. Fine cigar, not too expensive either. As with most of the posters above, I prefer smoking in the Summer months relaxing in the garden with a good glass of Scotch complimenting the Cigar. The satisfaction isn't quite the same in Winter.

Years ago, Mrs Digga nd I visited Cuba and during a few days in Havanna were accosted by English speaking locals who'd spotted the English writing on my t-shirt and put 2 and 2 together.

These guys had both spent some time in England and offered to give us a guided tour, which they did - and it [i[was[/i] great fun. We saw a number of sights we'd never have explored/found and had a good banter with them.

We knew that 'lunch is never free', so having concluded the excursion at one of their houses (tiny, one-room place with a mezzanine that slept thre generations), we gracefully accepted the offer of buying a 'cheap' box of cigars.

It was onyl when I got home that I discovered the act of smoking them involved a similar degree of dexterity to playing a recorder, in order that the many and various holes in the leaf be plugged to get any sort of 'draw'.

I was had, but it was (fortunately) a very small price to pay for a guided tour.

why declare the odd cigar?

Ive never been into cigars but brought quite a few back from cuba a couple years ago..
some Guantanamera Cristales ("for beginners" was the sell chat), and some big Montecristo's.

Wish i'd bought more of the Guantanamera's as i really liked em, much more than the Montecristo's .....

have invested in a nice humidor now so should really pick some more up.. anyone have any other beginner (light cigar) recommendations? ... i'll probably go for something smaller though, i had to enjoy my last cigars at night in the garden (sat outside with a nice rum or two) as i felt like i'd look like a tw*t if the neighbours saw me with a big ass cigar

I get mine from the pipe shop in Leith, they were giving a pack of minis with each 5 pack of Montecristo #4.

Anyways, if you're looking for a reliable online source I think Bebbs(sp?) is your man.

Forgot to add my favourite unassuming but excellent cigars are Quinteros, from Cuba, but not Havana.

Agree on Havana House - lovely range an dgreat service conversations.

I really miss not smoking cigars. So civilised. My regular favourite from aforementioned store was the El Rey Del Mondo petit corona. Just perfect for my needs on a summer's evening with a brandy.
