For as long as I can remember I, and everyone else I have asked about this, has occasionally felt pain in various parts of my body. Quite often it can be quite sharp, almost severe, but usually only lasts a second or so. One I used to get but haven't had recently, thank fk, was one that felt as if someone had just shoved a red hot spike up my rear end.

I'm old enough now to be reasonably sure that the pains aren't symptomatic of actual problems anywhere, so I wonder if there is a medical term for this phenomenon? Phantom pain referes to parts that are no longer there (amputated) but that isn't what I am talking about.

I used to get this years ago. No idea what it was. I was too frightened to go and find out I think.

Interesting thread, and I know exactly what you mean, sharp pains here and there, and the one in the rear end was particularly nasty!

Also, I get pains that last for weeks or months and then go away, and I have no idea why.

Random pains that last only seconds might be neuralgia (nerve pain). I can't think of another cause. Our bodies are full of nerves and muscles so perhaps a few muscle fibres contract or spasm periodically and give a nearby sensory nerve a nip. Sounds feasible to me. I get the odd pain like this too.

Lol, I know the one you mean, it's like cramp in your arse.

I get the old anal cramp every few months.

Other spontaneous pains include a quick, sharp pain in the centre of my chest and on my head now and then. Happened ever since I can remember.

Just before Christmas I started getting a dull, painful, immobilising pain in my left ribs when I laugh. It always occurs in the same spot - just below the 'breast'. No idea what it could be as I've had no injuries or anything, yet the pain is so intense, it stops me dead. confused Of course, I'm putting off going to the doctor as long as possible. I'll give it another few months.

I went to the doctors about this.

I said to him "Everywhere I touch its painful" "Here, ouch, here, ouch, here, ouch"

He said "Ah yes, you've broken your finger!"

Sorry, couldn't help myself

But back on topic.

I get this regularly and have often wondered what is going on. As previously mentioned it must be something to do with your nerves. Why though?

"Variant of normal", probably a virus, take 2 paracetamol and come back if it gets worse.
