A colleague needs to draw some graphs for their Economics assignments. So, multiple curves and linear intersections etc.

But not based on any particular data. They're purely indicative of economic behaviour.

Can anyone recommmend some software which will assist?

http://code.google.com/apis/charttools/

Takes a small amount of effort to generate the correct URLs, but quick and free.

Is that just like a free Excel?

If so, she's already good at Excel, but was wondering whether there was an easier way of drawing stuff without having to create data for curves.

Without data then you may as well draw it in paint or any other art package.

If you have the formula to generate the graph, and don't need the higher algebraic mathematical functions of something like Maple, Mathematica or Maxima, then I'd suggest Microsoft Mathematics.

Download it here.

It can deal with basic algebra (solving equations, factorising, expanding etc), trig functions and a bit of calculus, as well as plotting several types of graph. It's free to download and use.
