Just wondering if someone could advise on what my best option would be for the following situation:

I've been working in Australia on a working visa and will be getting a decent lump sum of tax back which I can have sent to either my Australian bank account, my Lloyds bank account back home or a cheque delivered to my home address in the UK.

In terms of getting the most out of it with the current exchange rate, would my best bet be to have it sent to the Australian bank account, withdraw it all before coming home
(June) and then exchange it to sterling when back home? This avoids any charges which Lloyds may put on/crap exchange rate they may have?

Or have I got the completely wrong idea and it would just be best to have it sent straight in to my Lloyds account?

I used xe.com to move money between the countries, the rate will probably be better but you would need to keep your account open in Aus (not a problem with the bank I was with, you can use a foreign address and access it online). When you initiate the transfer you give them your UK account details get details of the Aus bank account to transfer it to, send it there and the money appears as a pounds sterling transfer the UK end.

Again, the pound has got smashed against the AUD over the past 2 weeks and the long term trend most definatley up. I wouldn't be in any particular rush to do your switch into GBP as the longer you leave it the more GBP you are likely to get for your AUD.

The last thing to do it try to bank a foriegn cheque in a UK account, it takes forever, and rates are awfull. As to the others all the major banks use rate so similar that the best course is to use the most conveinient method.
