As per title really, use the official plug same as always, pooter makes the bing bong noise to say something has been inserted, charge symbol pops up on the screen and charges ipod but itunes doesn't see it and can;t sync and I get a windows pop up saying "ben and Maias ipod" would you like to open using vlc, windows picture viewer etc etc

So the computer sees it as a storage device ( which it didn't do before ) but itunes sits there like Stevie Wonder with a snake in the room.

Any tips or is it a send it back jobbie ?

It's the program that detects an iOS device, and tells itunes to do it's stuff. Is this device new? Restart itunes, (and ituneshelper), and see if that sorts it.

The Ipod is 3-4 months old, it is a refurbished one from Apple so has warranty.

When you say restart do you mean turn off computer and restart, if so I have done that 4-5 times over the last week and it still doesn't do its thing.
