Why don't you interview the person, not the clothes they wear. After all a shirt and tie can't put in any overtime.
No, but they can give a pretty good indication of attitude and how seriously they're taking the interview process.I had a guy once who turned up in a suit, and the first thing he did was take his jacket off and sling it across the back of a chair. That, his general deportment, and the fact he couldn't look anyone in the eye told me far more than his fanciful answers to interview questions.
Sadly the decision wasn't up to me and he was hired against my judgement. Lasted about six months if I recall correctly...

I've never understood the people who think this is acceptable. To turn up to any interview wearing jeans just screams 'I couldn't give a toss what I look like' which shouts pretty loudly to the interviewer about your view on the job as well.
No it doesn't.HTH

Why bother, interview lasts 2 mins if they look like they are walkinng in on the way to the pub.
You just potentially sent your best employee packing because of some pre-conceived notion that trousers are a relevant qualification or experience.
Well done.

Jeans to an interview = no job.

No, it indicates "I couldn't give a toss what you think about how I've dressed", even more revealing...

No, it indicates that they are taking the interview just as seriously as the next candidate as the interviewer should be interviewing the candidate, not the candidate's wardrobe.HTH
