Cashpoint did not pay out but still charged my account!
Discussion
Tonight at Tesco I used the cashpoint on site to withdraw 50 quid, cashpoint made a noise but no cash came out. Thought nothing of it and I hadn't requested a receipt. Put card in again and withdrew a further 50 quid with a receipt as I was worried, this arrived.
Got home tonight checked my bank and the machine has charged me 50 quid twice.
So, tomorrow i'm going to ring my bank, but who is liable?
Receipt is from RBS, machine is based at tesco and has the tag line CashLine across the top. My bank is Lloyds.
Thanks for any help!

Could be a scam. There are groups of people who put a fake note draw on the front so the cash gets caught up in it... half an hour later they come and take it away full of cash.
Did you notice anything out of the ordinary on the cash machine?
Also, being Tesco there are cameras all over the place so it should cover you using the bank.
I'd go and have a look at the cash point if I were you, I'd say its more of a scam than a faulty machine.
Very common amongst the eastern European criminal community. I've dealt with a few lately.

I'd assume I wouldn't be able to withdraw on the second attempt if this was the case though?
Fingers crossed bank can tell I didn't take any money, find out in the morning I guess...
The ones that we have discovered have been able to store the cash and somehow makes the machine think the money has been taken as normal. Very cunning. Fingers crossed bank can tell I didn't take any money, find out in the morning I guess...
It appeared to be more common on Barclays machines but there have been others found about the place.

Various reports of it on the news today.
happened to me once at a legit cash machine, call your card company quickly and explain what has happened and the whereabouts of the cash machine, they will then check the daily cash withdrawals at the machine electronically and should find that the machine was in "over'-credit by the amount you should have received
they will then refund you the money, even if its a scam - due to the evidence available (i.e. the electronic data of time/date/amount etc and the ?cameras) they can prove you were unfairly treated and refund the money, it is the job of the companies to ensure the cash machines are regularly checked and are functioning properly

I was ocne at a cash machine from a bank that I was not a customer of. For some reason the machine chewed up my card and the manager couldnt get it out. They let me withdraw £80 from THEIR bank and said they would then withdraw it from MY bank later on.
They never did take the £80 - result.

you know the normal scam is the thief places a thin ....rizla paper thin.... plastic device with barb into the card reader ,
He then hangs around the cash machine ,
You come along put your card in , the machine takes your card , but its held in by the plastic and barb device , you tap in your pin number ..OK but you cant retrieve your card ..it appears stuck in the machine ...you look all frustrated ...suddenly helpfull thief appears ..I had the same problem he says try again , he looks over your shoulder ..what hes after is your pin number ...you tap it in same result , he observes and now has your number , card is still in machine , he says better report it to the bank off you go and either the thief or his acommplice retrieve the plastic together with your card and off they go to clear your account.
Always check if your card is swallowed by the machine , rub your finger around the card holder , and dont show any good samaritan your pin number

Had it happen twice, once it took a week to get the money back and the second time an hour, neither was a big problem, I phoned my bank each time it hapend, and then went to my branch next day, I think it helped going to th bank rather than phoning.
Conversely I was distracted by my daughter and an ATM took its £200 back. The staff in-branch stated that they didnt have access to the machine (a lie, disappointingly) and that I had to take it up with my own bank.B&B contacted Barclays who didnt respond and after fourteen days credited my account, even though they hadnt heard from Barclays. For their part, Barclays had £200 in the recovered drawer and my details on their audit roll, but still dragged their heels...

I worked in a bank as a teenager. We did have access to the machine.
But, we did not have the authority to remove anything from the machine.
All we could do was fill it up – and even then there needed to be two people doing it as witnesses.
From a bank clerk POV we would have no idea whether it was your money – whether you had just seen it happen to someone else and were trying you luck – whether it was just a lie.
If we did open it then it would take two staff, the machine would have to be turning off so no other customer could use it.
When the money was removed it would need to be entered into the computer to make sure the money/computer balanced at the end of the day.
It's just not possible to put that much effort in for such a trivial problem.
Had this happen to me today, Link machine in the local Co-op took me for £1000 according to the bank. They're investigating now. Whats weird was that it spat me £60 than £80 on two requests for £500
HSBC have issued a temp credit that they say will hit my account in 7 days and it can take up to 28 days to sort out.
The machine gave instructions on screen that I should contact my bank, which I did straight away by phone
