Must be. 96/97 round these here parts depending on if you round up or down. Would be very upset to get a day in a suit for 90-100, but obviously accepting that the dice fell badly for me that day. 100+ and I would expect a day in a suit all day every day and anything else would be Christmas.

I was stopped years ago for an average speed of 99.26mph on a 70mph dual carriageway (the number sticks in my head for some reason! ). I got a court summons, pled guilty by post, and got 5 points and two hundred odd quid fine. It was at least 12 years ago though, so things may be different now.

snowen250 said: Also this is my first ever offence. It might well be, but it certainly isn't the first time you've broken the speed limit. I would of questioned 99 and admitted that cruise was set to 95, so true speed probably a max of 90, so that would have to be some downhill stretch for a car going 90 to gain 9mph.

Would have saved a lot of hassle if you had set the cruise control to 70mph. Without wanting to pour petrol on the fire , reading this from the outside looking in , as you say you rolled the dice, it reads to me , " set the cruise to 95 knowing I was 25mph above the limit and subject to points and fine if caught - but still not high enough to get a ban " you rolls the dice and you takes your chance. As you say you just wanted to get home , would driving 25mph slower made so much of a difference ? ? I will admit that I dont always stick to the speed limits - who does ? but I never , and I mean never sit at 90+ , in my eyes its not worth points and a fine., and if I had wanted to do that extra 5-10mph and run the risk . . . . well would I have gained anything ?

P2 djx, you are totally right. I gained nothing and will now probably lose a lot. Its why i feel such a mug now.
I dont know why i did it and normally like you i only creep to about 80. I didnt make a post on here looking for sympathy or how to get off it, just what to expect and to stop me worrying while im away on holiday.
Thanks for the posts guys, P2 djx included.

Thanks for the posts guys, P2 djx included. s t happens harsh as it sounds and i know in your place i would most likely be stressed out but in a way posters like P2 seem to be in the wrong place. Patronising posts saying dont speed you wont get caught are a little out of order. I have been pulled three or four times and had one ticket which could not be enforced. Speed away on motorways just make sure you are aware of your true speed and surroundings. Kent police are one of the best forces in the uk when it comes to roads policing very sensible. If you got done it was unfortunate but it's a risk you take when over the limit. Stay under 95 and you should be fine. Hell even over 95 you will keep your license you will however get harsher penalties.

Based on personal experience. 6 points and £300.00 fine. And a lesson learned for me.

I'd say 6 points and a half decent fine also I'm afraid. Doubt you'll get banned for sub 100 mph but certainly not 3 points. They may make you go to court for the pain to try and teach you a lesson.
+ you'll have solicitors fees also.

You'll be the first person to bleat if/when you're stopped for speeding and go to court and hopefully lose your licence with that attitude. If you give it billy big b ks as much as you make out, that day may come sooner rather than later...then lets see if you post with as much bravado and obvious contempt for the law.

Just saying, as I personally have never broken a law in my life. Not in the Jag. Nor in the Honda. Nor in the 7 series. And especially not in the M5.

Depends on how they get me to be honest. If its what I perceive to be a fair cop then I sure as hell wont bleat other than to point out how f king stupid the system can be. I drive for a living and spend a large proportion of my time way over the speed limit. I expect to get caught every single day and at some point I have no doubt I will. However I have managed way over a quarter of a million miles without capture and so if they get me now I will still feel I8 have done pretty damn well over all. I accept it as a part of my job in much the same way that whilst I really hope it wont happen I expect at some point to be in a major accident. It may sound like a joke but I genuinely have a bottle of champagne in my fridge for the first person to actually convict me of a speeding offence and I really hope its a police officer in a marked car. It will just feel more fair to me than some twit in a scamera van over a dual carriageway or motorway. Statistics count against me. Its not billy big b ks its merely a fact of life.

Simon Blimey that was quick (if you can excuse the pun!!) At least you were put out of your misery in short order! Congratulations on the 'three' points! Sounds like you got off quite lightly considering some of the other posters experiences!

Got 3 points for doin 80 in a 30 zone when I gave the local boy racers a quick zoom past in my old e46 m3, didn't realise there was a traffic police car behind me! The cops said they had to go 90 to catch me and could have reported me for dangerous driving.
I took the 3 points but was pissed off still

snowen250 said: Ive just been stopped. I had the cruise set to 95, stupid i know, and they measured me over a distance and it came back at 99. it must have been a downhill stretch as i was sure i wasnt going that fast. I know im a f king t t. The road was empty but thats not the point. Can anyone tell me what i'll get? The officer said he thought it would be 3 points, but is it more likely to be 6 and a big fine? Or court? I know im an idiot. I know i deserve all i get. You should check your speedo calibration -do you have bigger wheels on that originals? By the way, it would have to be hell of an incline to increase your speed on cruise that much! Cheers

I took the 3 points but was pissed off still Thats getting off lightly, i'm on for a summons for 50 in a 30 (Dual lane road, sunny warm day and on a Motorbike) for just a quick overtake on a friend I was riding with. Stupid for a 2 second pass but i'm just waiting to see my fate.
