Last Thursday I visited Ministry Of Sound in Elephant & Castle for an all night drum & bass/Dubstep event. After queuing for a while we went through the first security barrier which was a basic ticket scan in exchange for an admit. Then the line of people was split into 3 for separate metal detectors. After going through these bags were handed over to a search team and you stepped forward to receive a body search. At this point I expected a search similar to what you would receive at an airport but no... A thorough pat down all over, removal of my jacket was required and then the bouncer proceeded to question me on why I had a zip on my jeans pocket, I explained to him I wanted to keep my phone on me throughout the night and the zip was purely to prevent it being stolen or falling out. He then asked me if I had any drugs in my waistband, after replying no he lifted up my t shirt and put his hand inside my boxers and had a good feel around to say the least! All of the 8 other guys I was with received the same search (inside the boxers) and it became apparent that they were searching all males in this way. Yes we did see people getting drugs removed from them and I fully respect that they are doing all they can to try and prevent them inside the club but surely this manor of searching crosses the legal line? The ladies barely even received a bag search on the other hand, one of my friends said they didn't even look inside her purse.

Was just wondering PHs opinions on this? Is it Illegal?

You don't go to many drum and bass events do you. standard practice, and the regulars won't bat an eyelid.

"an all night drum & bass/Dubstep event" and you're surprised?

IIRC I also heard recently that they are going to struggle to get their licence renewed because of local residents' objections to same...

AS far as legality is concerned, I have no idea, but: you're on private property. If you didn't like it, your options were clear.

His private property, his rules. If you want to get in, you have to get his permission.

On a side note, I live just down the road from MoS. Given the local crime statistics, I'm not surprised security is so tight

What next? Strip and cavity searches?

I trust that:
a) They'd warmed their hands.
b) They were gloved.
c) They changed gloves between each search, or washed their hands if not gloved.

Please, what is a "Dubstep"? It sounds like a Russian I used to know.

Was there any warning about this beforehand?

I'd be interested in Plod's view but that sounds like sexual assault to me.

When I grew up, was always told never to look inside a ladies hambag or purse.

If you don't like it then visit a jazz club.

Sexual Assault? lol

It's a thorough search entering a private licenced premises to which entry is gained following a search you agree too.

Can't see the problem really. In future just take your drugs a few minutes before and try not to sweat profusely or dance like a mentalist as you get that hand job off the bouncer!

Sexual assault? What was sexual about that act?

What was it that American shouted when searched at an airport? "Don't touch my junk!" Those crazy Americans...

If a search is a condition of entry to the club they could open your mouth and shine a torch down your neck if they wanted to!

This is news to you !? Last time I went to MoS was in the mid 90's and they were doing that then. They were also more intimate with the girls than you say (being a girl I know this) with lady bouncers. All rave/techno/dance/d&b clubs I went to were doing it then and I assume do it now!

its always been the same at events like that - world dance/helter skelter etc.

MOS is pretty stringent at the moment as they have a review of their licence coming up - pressure from residents and a few shootings/stabbings have made the renewal unlikely!

!
And does it say on the way in that a search will be made of your boxer shorts? If not, how do you agree to it? Furthermore, at any time you can object and it would have to stop immediately - any consent which could possibly be implied has been removed.

Then we move onto the question of anyone being drunk and unable to consent (that's how people get done for rape).

lol what planet are you on.

And you are free to stop them at any time. You just can't go in the club.

You're subjecting yourself to a night of pure hell listening to that kind of st, and you're moaning about a poxy hand-job?
I would have thought that was the only upside to the trip
