Ooops - not reading properly - local councils were enacted to clamp last year. Edinburgh started clamping cars whose owner were owing more than £2k in parking FINES (not parking charges).

The Scottish Courts started doing so earlier using a Seizure of Vehicle Order (SVO).

The power to clamp for non payment of VED has been on the statute book for 15 years.
There have been numerous amendments thereto over the intervening years.
The one permitting immobilisation elsewhere than on a road came into force on 1st October 2008.

Thanks red devil. I was aware that the DVLA had the power to clamp in Scotland, but not the courts and local authority.

The sheer blatant hypocrisy of this makes me sick. I remember all the debates and the outcry against the clampers, the dishonesty and immorality arguments and everything that served to have this odious practice outlawed.

And who has brought it back in? The Scottish government and the Courts; the very people who outlawed it in the first place. The worst aspect is they are using private contractors to do it. Probably the same miscreants who were outlawed originally. God help us all, Edinburgh Council are involved; arguably the worst, most corrupt and incompetent council in the British Isles.

Where does this stop I wonder?
