Hi
I recently bought a car and the previous keeper wanted to retain the number plate.
I have been assigned a new number plate by the DVLA which I have just put on the car.
All good so far.
However, when I called the insurance company there to update my policy with the new number I found they are closed until Monday.
Will it be fine to drive the car as is, or should I wait until I have called the insurance co on Monday to update my policy?
Many thanks

Have DVLA stated when the new plates come into force?
You are illegal if driving on plates that are now not in force for that vehicle
Rock and a hard place if DVLA state new plates are in force now but insurance info is incorrect because either way you will be illegal IMO
If the previous keeper has transferred those plates legally onto their current car and you also have them on yours then one of you is deffo illegal!!!!!!

No insurance company would ever refuse a claim on the car they were insuring because you hadn't told them of a change in the reg number. Especially if that occured at a weekend and you told them on a Monday.
Even if you forgot to tell them at all, it might hold up the claim whilst the insurance co got an explanation, but if it was the same car involved in the claim that they were covering, just on a different plate, it wouldn't effect the cover .

Thank guys
It's still early days with the paperwork, so:
- The papers from the DVLA doesn't say when to put the new number on the car, or when the old number becomes invalid; and
- I haven't received the V5C yet (it says 4 weeks) and the previous owner hasn't received the retention papers for the old number yet.
I have put the old reg back on, and will put the new reg on on Monday after I have told the insurance company.

Hmmm , if it is just a matter of notifying the insurer of the change of registration mark , can't you send this information to them by email ? Then , if anything happened prior to the office opening on Monday , you have a timed , auditable 'paper trail' which would prove you had notified them before taking the car onto the road with the new number plate .
You could , also , back this up by printing off the email and posting it to them , mentioning that you were doing this in the body of the message , along with your intention to telephone them at opening time on Monday morning .
By doing the above , you would have taken every step practicably possible and it is hard to see how you could be faulted .

i just the old plate back on my car
it does not give a date in the paperwork when to do, just says something like as soon as you can, in my mind that means waiting for the insurance company to be open so that you can change the details and be legal
