ColinM50 said: None of you ever been on a cruise? Done a few with various cruise lines and they've all got similar clauses, only booze you're allowed in your room is that bought at the bar. If you buy a bottle duty free from the on board shop, they hold it till your day of departure. T's&C's say if you buy a bottle in one of the ports of call your hand baggage is Xrayed as you get back on and first time your caught they confiscate it, second time they can throw you off the ship. Don't know if they go that far but I got and caught smuggling a bottle of brandy on board from a shore trip in Marseille, they just took it and gave it back to me when we left, but boy did I get an almighty b king, scared me s tless and I wouldn't risk trying it again. Should be cheaper next time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmY5uN18SaU

It's the same with some cinemas. Some don't allow food. Apart from the slim chance of someone actually reading the T&Cs for a hotel, which I've never felt the need to do, it's their rules.

Food & Drink Only food and drink purchased from the hotel may be consumed on the premises. If food or beverages are brought into the hotel for consumption, a charge will be made equal to the hotel’s selling price for that or an equivalent product, which shall be in the absolute determination of the hotel. The Duty Manager may also confiscate food or beverage until your day of departure and return it to you. How would the prove that the OP intended to consume it in the hotel? They'd have to be present whilst he was consuming it surely? Well if he wasn't going to consume it during his stay then it won't matter to him that it has been confiscated. Would you apply the same logic if they took it upon themselves to confiscate other personal effects which they provided an alternative to at your expense? There's the The Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999 (UTCCRs) that cover that kind of thing. http://www.oft.gov.uk/about-the-oft/legal-powers/l...

For our big anniversary I was planning on treating Mr 13th to a trip from Southampton to enjoy the ocean waves in a beautiful suite. Expensive, so I was planing on bringing along a case of Bolly one for each night. No can do! and buying it at their prices!!! So they have lost a couple that would have gone on to spend lots more in the restaurants and bars; not to mention the spa. We went on a "taster" day, at lunch I got stuck between a retired Dentist and a retired erm OH I can't recall he was that boring. Imagine that for 10-14 days!! It seemed so regimented that it deff is for the older generation.

I booked a table at a posh restaurant last week...when the waiter came to the table and asked if we'd like anything to drink as he handed us the menu, I said "No thanks..." and pulled a bottle of Bud from my pocket...The wife unwrapped the fish and chips...at this point we were asked to leave...I don't know why...I told him we'd only booked the table...we didn't want to eat their food...are they allowed to do this?

Did you pay £60 specifically for a table to sit at all night? No? Oh well, so much for that poor analogy.

Umm yeah because this is comparable... You don't pay to book a table, the core income of a restaurant is the food and drink you order. You are obliged to order something, even if it's inexpensive. You do pay for a hotel room. For all they know, you may then be out and about during the evenings. You are not obligated to further use their facilities. I tend to find hotel food for example to be pretty crappy and deff. over priced, as such I'll often go grab a takeaway that I know I'll enjoy rather then endure the dire offering. Not much wrong with that imo. I've booked a room, ie somewhere to stay, that is all.
