There is only one reason why the police have decided to dish out fines to drivers whom try to warn others of a speed trap is loss of revenue. Some t t has realised they may be loosing money if drivers slow down. Reading the papers today, motorists who hog middle lanes may be fined £90, tailgating, fined, wrong lane on a roundabout, fined. You will be fined soon for daring to drive your bloody car.

Do police sped traps create revenue for the police? Using the police for high visibility deterrent type speed traps is not a good use of police resources. Stick a camera van or gatso there if that is what you want to achieve.
The purpose of police speed traps should be a general deterrent through catching people speeding and either warning or ticketing/reporting them.

I just don't get this. For this to have been a success, it should surely involve a fag packet calculation involving:
The value of educating drivers/impact on road safety
Plus
Revenue generated from fines
Less
The cost of policing and running the operation
Less
The impact on public attitudes towards the Police.
Financially, I'd be surprised if the fines covered the cost of running things and subjectively, I just don't see how the net effect of enforcing the 'no flashing' law has helped the Police cause - especially at a time when the BiB need and deserve a bit of support.

As much as I scorn middle of the road twerps, I hold my hand up and admit I voted for the knobbers currently in government mostly due to lack of choice but partly on the manifesto promise of cutting the previous lots Penchant for persecuting motorists. All I can say is thank f k they are sticking to that one or I'd be feeling a little betrayed.

I might have come across wrongly in my post, whilst I agree your comments, it all seems the motorists is being singled for even more revenue than usual lately. And your right, a verbal I think is the way to go.

It's just missing the other two important ones Not using the car's DIPPED HEALIGHTS in the rain (wtf is it with sidelights or even none in the last few years? Rear fogs in rain - it's not fog morons!

Rear fogs in rain - it's not fog morons! Not to be picky but fog is a lot of small water droplets and rain is a lot of larger water droplets (hence why gravity pulls it down) and in heavy rain the spray kicked up is technically fog.

Yes I know that. However Fog is massively reduced visibility & you need fog lights to be seen, spray is just like light mist & normal lights can be seen perfectly well. Being a biker it's a pet hate of mine because without wipers on my visor I just get a huge red glow right across infront of my eyes. It always seems to be the same tards who forget to move left so it's harder to get past as well.

Glad I looked at this thread. Until now I have been guilty of this.
I didn't know it was illegal to flash oncoming cars.
From now on I will let the faster moving traffic get caught, fined, maybe lose their licence, job and family.
It must be horrible for the government to lose all that money. Didn't realise I had been so irresponsible.

Fairly certain that regardless of what the Stalinists would have us believe it isn't actually illegal to flash oncoming cars,. The rozzers are attempting to imply that it's misuse of lights which frankly if some plod offered me a roadside invoice for I'd be forced to decline and take up my day in court.

At least in France & Spain you are warned that there are Fixed Radar traps coming up in a lot, O.K. you still have un marked cars & Mobile Radar traps as well, but you do have some chance, whereas here in the U.K. no chance.
As an aside today I have been told that as from 2 weeks ago if you are caught without water in the windscreen bottle it is now a fine of £60 or points on your licence, and if you are involved in an accident and found to have no water in your windscreen bottle you could be charged with other ofences, anyone else ?

Hate to burst your bubble but the froggies are removing all warnings of speed cameras and having a device capable of warning you of them will net a €1500 roadside fine. Ther Spanish however tend to take baseball bats to any gatsos they find. Can't help on the water thing though except to say what will they do if it's minus 15 celcius and the water jets won't unfreeze?

Completely different approach here in Canada.
The local radio stations want you to call in and warn them of any accidents or speed traps (and they still call them that here). They'll then broadcast to all their listeners where they are.
Keeping the speed down is what they wanted - don't seem to care how it's achieved.
