She deserves a ticket for that.
What do you think the pale brown, dimpled 'tactile' paving is for?

I bet that spot is a nice money maker... As above it is misleading stoping the yellows so short, if we all obeyed the highway code no yellow lines should need to be painted around a juntion we all know the rules, so why paint them and stop them short?

Accidents usually have multiple contributory factors. One thing leads to another.......
In parking that close to the junction anybody using that side road wishing to exit it at the Give Way is forced out over the middle of the road.
Parking there besides inconveniencing pedestrians that may want to cross the road may also obscure the visibility of pedestrians for those drivers approaching that Give Way.
It's inconsiderate and selfish parking at the least.
If there aren't any lines or signs there to tell me otherwise I'll park because I am incapable or too lazy to think for myself?
What percentage of accidents happen at junctions?

What percentage of accidents happen at junctions? It's actually quite a wide road and with cars parked both side all over that area traffic can still flow in both directions . I agree she should not have parked there . Not defending but she did not honestly know , she's never had a fine or conviction before. and was unaware of the lowerd walk way rule. I'm sure we are all guilty of not knowing some traffic laws and road rules . But was just asking for any advice, was not really after the politics of the situation .. PHers "rolleeyes" Thanks for the advice all she will just have to pay the fine and learn . Bimbo Ciao for now as they say in ??????

I bet that spot is a nice money maker... Are you really suggesting that this is a cynical revenue generating exercise? Given the proximity of the junction, and the many pedestrians who have prams and wheelchairs, this looks like a straightforward safety oriented road design. The OP's bird is not Saddam Hussein's more evil little sister, but she did make a mistake which probably inconvenienced others and might have reduced their safety.

Yep. Think of the fine as the course fee for "Anti-Solipsism 101".

I think the OP really knew the answers he'd get. Hope he hasn't been disappointed.

Your girlfriend is lucky to get a way with only a PCN.
If I parked there I would have expected to come back to a few dents and scratches from irate pedestrians.

Interestingly enough, you cant park against the traffic in Australia, Canada, and I think the states, there are probably others as well.

I did in QLD and the neighbours of my relatives thought I was a Pom because of it.

Interesting the number of cars along my road that are never turned round at dusk, mine included. Wonder how long it'll be before the council clicks and sends its parking officers round in the evenings? BTW - is it true that in France you can't leave a car parked in the same place for longer than a week?

She was lucky to just get the one ticket - tell her to pay it. I don't think they can issue multiple PCN's in one go.

Double yellow should be painted on EVERY corner/junction to the distance stated in the Highway Code. The amount of people I see parked right up to, and often even on, a road corner is astounding.

We've got decrim parking as the police were too short of staff to deal with it ,so plenty of parking on pavements where the county have repainted the lines .
