Sorry I am a little confused as to the problem here. Someone damaged your car by spraying paint over it. They need to fix it.

How can neighbour B not think they are responsible?? unbelievable.
And WTF rattled neighbour A's cage?
But, may be worth swallowing the £400 rather than risk anything official as this may have to be declared should you ever want to sell your house.

Just to elaborate on what I wrote earlier, I very much doubt your paintwork needs more than a "normal" clay, polish and a wax. £390 is highly likely, well over the odds. I've had spots of spray paint (rather than fence paint) from a mural painter over 3/4 of an old car and got the car looking as good as before plus a couple of light scratches cleared for £50 at mates rates. Would normally have been £90. Your neighbours were shocked at the cost because it's very high. Yes, they reacted badly but they were probably expecting the cost to be about a third of that!

Yep, understand that, I didn't get mates rates, and 'normal clay' didn't shift it all, and the coarser clay leaves marring over what is brand new paintwork.... so I wouldn't notice it on my Jeep, or the smart (so will probably go this route for them). I don't want any marks, so I got a detailer to quote me for a proper job - which seems to be akin to a 'Paint Correction' service. It was never going to be £90, but I might have expected £2-300.... but to be fair.. thats not the point. The GF already was clearly not talking to me before I even gave them the quote, so in this instance I'm not sure the cost is more pertinent than my apparent 'rudeness' (her words not mine) at even asking them to sort it.

Ah, it was probably the GF who sprayed their fence/your car, after the guy told her to be careful with the sprayer, that's why she's narked; boyfriend telling her "told you so".  I was not aware you could get grades of clay? Perhaps a cutting pad but I'd be surprised if even that level was required. Even so, £390 is too much. You can get a full detail including paint correction for that. Not sure where you are but first result in Google gives http://allthatgleams.co.uk/detailing/used-car-prot... at £350 for more work than you need. I don't disagree that they should pay, but I think you're asking for more than is required.

Well, I'd say it depends on how you want to play it. Personally I'd go round one more time and ask them politely whether or not they intend to pay for the damage to your car.

Clearly they should pay for whatever treatment is required to correct the paint.
However it's worth realising that they are probably going through a stressful time and nearly £400 sounds like a hell of a lot of money and a bill they really don't need right now.

Neighbour A.... Feck off you  , nothing to do with you. Neighbour B .... "it's a nearly new car, I work my b ks off to pay for it...I will get it sorted as cheaply as I can for a proper job doing, but you are going to have to pay" If they refuse, it's big fall out, court time

Have you tried a rag soaked in white spirit?
I managed to get Thompson's Drive Paint all over the side of my MX5 recently. (Left a roller tray with some residue on the drive whilst I had a cuppa, the wind picked it up and blew it into the car parked on the road).
Took me 15 mins with a rag and white spirit to remove it.

Don't try anything at all that is a cheap option. Get a couple of proper quotes, and get the work done on the neighbours. Tell the pregnant moron next door to wind her neck in and the bint in the household who did the damage to shut the ferk up and pay you.
