I was browsing through ebay trying to establish a value of my daily commute car and I found it literally - same care same reg - basically my car with 50k miles more than when I bought it about year and a half ago - so it looks like it's either cloned or it's photos of my car before it was sold to me (50k miles younger...) what do I do where do I report it apart from ebay obviously...should I be worried?

I'd report it to the police, not eBay if you think it's a clone.

Its either a clone, or most likely a scammer using pics of it. Let me guess its either a mid range BMW or AUDI being advertised a bit too cheap & an email address in the pics?

Either way inform ebay & post a link up to the ad

I'd also keep it as secure as possible, a garage it could be left in? Or at least parked away from your address. Sure i see something on here a few months back? Black Nissan X-Trail or something? Guy see's it advertised on autotrader..

I'd call the police and get the car secured, could be on a stolen to order kinda of thing?

OR call the ad.. arrange to view the car..? Then involve police.

Or there's a lazy seller who can't be arsed to take pics of his own car.

BUt probably a scammer. Is there a real phone number?

If its an auction put a stupidly high bid in so you win it. When he contacts you about payment send him a pic of it already on your drive and tell him to go fk himself......oh and call the police. biggrin

I found out that an old car of mine was cloned by asylum seekers and started getting debt agency letters from a tescos at the other end of the country for non payment of petrol.

I even managed to find out the address for the police and informed them as such,

They were about as useful as a chocolate teapot, but when they did finally go round the address over a month later they couldn't find the car as they moved from that address the week before also it was found out that they had been cloning credit cards.

So I doubt anything will be done.

I don't know how to check fr you. I would if I could. Is it possible for someone to help the OP out with a quick online check? Just to put him out of his misery?

Yes he can enter the reg in and it will say all is ok or its a write off etc etc.

The problem is you need to know the reg you are putting in belongs to the car and vin numbers of the the car you own or are looking at.

Make sure the VIN number on your V5 matches the one stamped into your chassis ( not the little removable tag ) ; ditto engine no .

See if your police force have a cyber crimes unit and inform them .
