I just watched the documentary on what has been alleged.
Based on what aired nothing has been proven as such, but what can be gained from the accusations?
Can any claim be made on his estate for compensation?

Does all seem a bit strange to me. Am I correct in thinking that the Police have been made aware of allegations a few times in the past, but the alleged victims either didn't want to continue, or there was insufficient evidence? What has changed now he's been dead a while

Is there any truth in this matter or is it a case of kicking someone when they are down, 6ft down.

The revelations have been started by a TV production company. Before that the victims might well have felt isolated. One lone voice against the knighthood of the saintly Savile? No chance. Ten voices, supporting one-another, now that's entirely different. Further, there is no requirement on a victim to do things according to a calender. They have a perfect right to pick and choose their times. Pressure mounts over the years and they might well feel that for them the time is right. Who's to criticise? Someone buggers you and all of a sudden you are required to do things in a certain way? The victim's needs are paramount. Death doesn't put you away from criticism, just punishment. He's got away with it. Perhaps that is what has generated the complaints. Or perhaps it was the eulogising before Christmas. They see programs telling the world how great he was. Perhaps they felt the need to put a bit of balance in the mix.

There is plenty of truth in it; a friend of mine (who surprisngly was in her twenties ) was subject to advances from the appalling Saville. He was sent on his way and he did mention as he slunk off that he far preferred them half her age. The only question is why on earth people didn't blow the whistle then. He was a sacred cow- raised huge money for charidee obviously - but that doesn't get him off this hook.

I suppose that the police investigation is to discover if there was any connivance or cover up by the BBC, assuming for the moment that the allegations of abuse are true. To this extent, the investigation plays the same role as it does in relation to the Catholic Church.
Civil claims would probably be time barred, as they would have to be made with three years of the alleged victim turning 18.
Late disclosure of childhood abuse may reflect lying, or false memory, or may reflect the real trauma inflicted by such abuse.
I once acted in a sports regulatory case for a man accused of child abuse. He was eventually found by his sport's governing body to have committed abuse against children many years in the past. By then I was no longer acting for him, I am glad to say. I had to give a colleague a firm pep talk on the cab rank rule when transferring the case (I was not available), whilst being frankly glad that my own cab's orange light could be off.

I remember talking to someone in the early to mid nineties and there was some very serious allegations floating about then. Something linking him to Stoke Mandeville IIRC.

A bloke trying to chat up a 20 something year old woman. Absolutely vile.

Maybe I should watch it before commenting but from what I've seen I'm really torn, seems we'll never know the truth, the victims will never get justice and Saville can't respond to the allegations. I guess I'm angry that any abuse such as alleged can happen at all and that there must be people that could've taken steps at the time to reduce risk of abuse or allegations

A middle aged man letching a twenty something woman is sad and cheesy, but not, of course, illegal. I do not believe that Saville would have told a woman in his twenties that he preferred girls half her age. Not so CSB, I suggest.
It is of course wrong to judge by appearances, but Saville looked like Central Casting's ideal kiddyfiddler. My pervy ex-client, mentioned above, also looked like everyone's standard idea of a pederast.

Its amazing isn't it? When its a Knighted White bloke of 'legend' status, we await further evidence in light of these accusations..... But when its several Asian men of Pakistani origin we are ready en-masse to claim its something to do with 'their culture' and every middle aged Asian man is perceived to be a person hunting 'cheap white meat'.... What i've realised recently is that we hate child abusers if they 'have them too young' (seems over 13 is fair game) or if they arent white blokes............ I swear there was idiots who believed Asian men invented child abuse...truth is its our society thats to blame for not looking after our kids! I'm being slightly flippant as usual, but i agree that more evidence needs to come to light, but i'd imagine that as a power figure Sir Jimmy Saville is as larger than life you can get, so i can imagine a young girl putting away these events into her distant memory as who would believe her right? If we could make a decision based on looks alone....he looks like Paedophile

To be fair, in the Rochdale cases, many of the girls were ignored, or treated as prostitutes, for quite a while before their complaints were taken seriously. Their own social and ethnic backgrounds may have had something to do with that.
Public perception of child abusers is often skewed. Fear of stranger danger blends with homophobia and sometime racism. Cases show that most abusers are male, most are heterosexual, and most know their victims.

I swear there was idiots who believed Asian men invented child abuse...truth is its our society thats to blame for not looking after our kids! But that's simply not true. Part of the furore caused by the recent Rochdale case was that they were *not* white men - where before paedophiles had been perceived to be in general nearly always men, and nearly always white. I don't think there a general perception of middle aged asian men hunting white meat. I think there is a change in perception that 'it might not only be white men'. Very different. And there's another fundamental difference in the two cases. One has been proven in a court of law. The other one is only just starting to emerge into the light.

If we could make a decision based on looks alone....he looks like Paedophile The Rochdale abuse investigation is being criticised, because complaints WERE made to the police by victims - but as in many cases where the victim is young, pressure was put on them, and the complainant withdrew the complaint, and police were then powerless to proceed on that complaint. Their failing perhaps was in not instigating their own investigation - but you can see how they might not given the age of the complainant! Had it been a case of PtCoJ over a speeding fine, they would have perhaps given more resources! .
