The BBC or their source have not helped.

First it was a grey van, then a white van then a blue range rover.
And officially a blue Landrover Discovery if the person being questioned is the bloke that picked her up.
This is the bit that worries me, a light coloured van to a different coloured car. Have they just picked up a local man with mental health issues?

Or infringing the civil liberties of a perfectly innocent man - a possible scenario here.
But, if a substance is available that is reliable and has no long term effects would it be a problem? If he is perfectly innocent his liberties are already infringed.

Putting a link to a page about the correct spelling of Dilemma is hardly a useful addition to a thread with one of the most serious subjects imaginable.

I had read your posts previously with respect to your knowledge.

Your response has just lost that.
I shall hardly sleep in consequence. Hat still available.

I share the concerns of the previous poster and also those expressed by Breadvan.

How can the chap who's been accused ever hope to have a fair trial when his mugshot and details of his life are plastered all over the newspapers? I understand why the police release this information, but it's an interesting dilemna ( wink cheers for the link BV). Do you release the info and increase the chance of someone calling something in, but potentially at the expense of a fair trial, or do you preserve his anonimity?

If it turns out that the guy you've arrested is just a harmless nutter, what on earth do you do then? Presumably he'll get a big compo payout, but he'll need a new life.

Anyway, needless to say, I do hope they find April as soon as possible. It must be awful for her family. There but for the grace of god go I.

edited for crap spelling!

Let's try the stuff out on you first to see whether it does any harm. No? I didn't think you'd agree.

So let's make it even worse? Brilliant idea.

What truth would you seek from me to test it? Perhaps those already convicted but whose victims have not been found may be a better guinea pig.

Or reduce the time where this needs to be the case.

Starting to sound like a police jobbie of question the wrong guy until he cracks .. and the real criminal gets away.

In cases like this, surely a quick application of a truth drug would help?
Definitely. When they get the location the could warp drive over and save her. Or just teleport her to the police station.

People have basic human rights even when they're in custody. One of these is not being tortured.

Incidentally these same people still have the same basic human rights if they are convicted of a crime irregardless of what keyboard warriors think should happen to them.

Am I correct in thinking that the Police encourage the parents to broadcast an appeal in order to study their behaviour? Does this mean the mother is a suspect in this case?

I wonder if the guy they are holding has already killed April and hidden her body, perhaps in the river and left no evidence to link him to the crime. If he keeps quiet he will have to be released until evidence is found, perhaps getting away with it for ever.

There was a hint in the media that the mother was linked with the suspect somehow, I won't be surprised if ther turns out to be a lot more to this story.

They have someone they're questioning - that's not the same as "having the perp". And keeping hens in your house isn't illegal as far as I'm aware?

Sadly, innocent until proven guilty is a noble ideal which the average person has real trouble adhering to. If it wasn't so tragic for those wrongly accused some reactions to this sort of thing would be the stuff of Monty Python.

Oh, hang on, it is... BURN THE WITCH!!!

They did indeed link Bridges to the family - though I didn't see how. Furthermore he was arrested, AFAIK, in a van - the Rangie was in for repair round the corner.

As to the family being in the frame - the Mum looked pretty distraught to me. I just hope she's found, alive, soon.

He wasn't arrested in a van, he was on foot, as stated during a police update to the press.

That's interesting, because I saw, somewhere, a photo of a white Courier type van surrounded by plod, and am certain they said he'd been driving it. Either mis-reporting, I'm going mad, or they've hushed that detail up.

ETA: was an aerial shot. Will see if I can find it anywhere.

Strangely, I HEARD the mother's appeal before I SAW it on TV. On the radio, it's a grief-stricken, heart-rending sound. But when I watched her on TV yesterday evening, what struck me was the apparent lack of almost any facial emotion, even though I was listening to the same sound clip. She did seem to collapse in tears at the end but leant forward and covered her face.

Could be just me (I'm certain that some of you will think that, I know which forum I'm logged on to!), could be just the mother's personality, could be the police gained something from it. We won't know for a while I guess.

Its a fact that in most cases of child abduction the victim is known to the "perp" whether its family or friend or place of work etc.. Very few are by total strangers.

It was the father that interested me more - he seemed very detached. I'm not gonna speculate more at the moment though!
