Personally, I think he should just stump up the cash, however, it looks like he is going to risk it.
You mean not pay the fine?

I was arrested in my Chrysler 300 outside the grad central terminal in NYC due to a none paid speeding ticket. I was hand cuffed and shoved into a cop car. The next thing I know my 300 flies by with a cop diving it.

I was then booked and put in a cell with criminals. I sat there for hours before immigration grilled me then left. This was all because I hadn't paid a speeding ticket which was due to a clerical error. I had never seen the second ticket and if I had I would have paid.
Now that I have been arrested it is treated as if I have a criminal record.

I ended up in 3 different courts including the main courts of NYC where they were trying murderers and rapists. I spent $3000 on sorting out the mess which ,again, was caused be a clerical error made by the NJ DMV.

I got caught doing 106 in a 65 in Arizona. Cop said if it wasn't for the fact that I was a non-US citizen, which further complicates the paperwork, I would have been spending the night in jail. Anyway he was a nice enough guy (he actually marked my speed down as less than 100), gave me a ticket for 300 usd and said I could pay in the next town or by post once I got home.

I didn't pay, I have since flown into Illinois, Florida and Cali with no problems at customs. But if I knew I would fly back into Arizona, I might have decided to pay.

Now that you've posted this on here , OP , the CIA will have picked up on this thread .

Even now they will be accessing your email records to determine your known associates , tasking satellites to follow your movements , and comparing your list of known associates to their immigration records and outstanding warrants .

Next thing your friend knows , a strike team will put stun grenades through his windows before removing him to one of their safe houses ; from there he will be handed over to US Marshalls before finding himself on a rendition flight to Guantanamo Bay .

He'll be outfitted with one of these nice orange suits and will enjoy showering with Bubba .

Arizona are one of the few states that don't have reciprocity with other states. Think of the US states as countries of the EU. The Federal government is the same as the EU parliament and they create laws for the entire country. But, each state is responsible for many laws. The police have no authority once they cross the state line. In fact the local police have to ask permission to cross county lines. That's why there are State police who can go anywhere in the state.
With this system in place, again similar to Europe, if you get a speeding ticket in one state it wouldn't have any weight in another state. So, they put in place reciprocity where if you get caught speeding in one state you get points in your home state. You have to pay the fine, But you only get 2 points in your home state. Reciprocity is only between certain states and not all.

So, to the point, if you speed in one state you can treat it as an isolated incidence in that state as a foreigner. It's like saying "I got caught speeding in London and I didn't pay. I'm going to Berlin, will the Spanish police lock me up?"

(On a side note, it was very obvious to me that Tony Blair was desperate for Europe to mirror the US and for him to be president.)

Sounds like the usual 'I'm British, so the laws of other countries do not apply to me' stuff - just as happens in France after le Mans etc. It gives all Brits a bad name, and so the rest of us suffer.

Glad to hear your friend is worried - hope they grab him at the airport and send him to jail for a while.

didnt clarkson suggest that its unlikely you will get arrested at an airport for non payment of motoring fines because the airport police dont want the paperwork?

Pretty much everyone does this, it is not confined to Brits.

Non-British drivers in non-British registered cars not paying up traffic or parking fines in the UK is almost routine.

Oh if that is the case, we are even then and that makes law breaking ok.
