True - although the locals will often just turn around and cross the border at a different point that isn't manned at that particular time...

so.. erm....

having recently been caught doing 172kph in an 80kph... paying the 3000chf deposit, and spending 4 hours with plod,

I am wondering what my eventual fine may be?

had a nice little form to fill out, and even though I was driving a Ferrari have pleaded poverty, ;-P (and can back it up if necessary).

The Plod wanted 3500chf deposit, but the judge on the end of the phone told them to only take 3000chf, which I take to be a good sign?

rsv gone!

It will be decided by the courts.

Lucky that you aren't 'rich'

I was wondering if anyone had any experiences of similar recently?

Just back from a trip, was on a dual carrigeway, thought it was 100km/h, wasn't... was pulled, claimed i was doing 121km in an 80km (I disputed, admitted to the 100km, but didn't get to see any evidence, just told i had been gotten on radar at 121).

Paid the 1000CH on the spot fee, and from reading up, i will be expecting more through the post.. so wondering if anyone has an experience to how much, and how, if at all possible, to fight?

Why are they "thieving buggers"?

It's not a great secret that the Swiss dislike speed.

its the level of fines that lead me believe they are Thieving buggers, the Penalty doesnt feel like it fits with the crime.

so they are actually allowed to cross over then much like if you do something in america and you can be done for it despite being in another country?

Not being funny but I didn't understand your comment. Could you rephrase?

If the question is, can the Swiss pursue a fine across borders, then yes. And they have border controls, so you can find your self detained at the border until you pay a previous fine+interest.

Put it this way: if the Swiss issue a summons for speeding, and then you don't show at court, you would be found guilty in your absence. Assuming it wasn't a prison sentence, they would fine you heavily.

It is possible they would pursue that fine overseas via a debt agency. And they would not allow you re-entry (assuming you were stopped) at a border crossing until it was paid.

To be fair, they'd already earned the "thieving buggers" moniker when they decided to gouge foreigners for an annual vignette just to cover a 2hr crossing!

Well that is true. Always bemused they don't offer a 1 week/2 week pass for say, €10.

Bloody cheap when you consider I've just paid €24 for a 260 mile drive down a Croatian motorway. Thieving fkers.

Which one was that? I've just done a lot of miles in Istria and I don't recall a big toll like that.

I paid 40 euro for my 80 mile Splugen to Bregenz trip through Switzerland. I bet the bl**dy vignette leaves all sorts of residue, too. Harrumph!

Ogulin to Ploče. Switzerland cost is bloody good value compared to Slovenia or Croatia. Slovenia was €15 for seven bloody days, at least the Swiss €40 is good for a year!

Exactly. We're having this discussion right now, should we go through France or Switzerland because although Switzerland is a pain in the arse to drive through, it's actually cheaper. Providing I don't get caught speeding of course.
