As soon as the owner of a foreign registered car becomes resident in the U.K., they must register it as a U.K. vehicle and pay the appropriate fees. If not, it can be seized if stopped.
We've seized hundreds of cars owned by Eastern Europeans and others who now work over here.

I see lots of Eastern European registered cars which are 'UK spec', right hand drive, who have managed to get parking permits with their non UK numberplate I think lots just buy cars here and put a plate from back home on to avoid tax, fines, etc... is there a time period when such cars must have UK plates fitted if they remain on the roads? We've seized hundreds of cars owned by Eastern Europeans and others who now work over here.

Anyone know if I can purchase an IOM registration number on retention and legally assign it to use on a UK registered vehicle?
TIA
On the basis that buying a Manx reg car and bringing it to the mainland results in the issuing of a new "UK spec" number, and the Manx one being defunct, then I think probably no. TIA

Round my way (Beds/Cambs) the Police have cracked down on this and a sizeable number of drivers of these cars are British residents with UK licences... that will include settlers from EE but it seems unlikely that no Brits at all would be trying this wheeze.Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
