The op's original questions were along the lines of 'Can damage by off roaders to common land in anyway be controlled and how can illegal off roading be prevented?'

In the main contributions from off roaders seem to be falling into 2 groups ....

Group 1
The inconsiderate off roaders that can't understand why common land should be closed because it needs to be protected from over use and on going damage. And that if it is closed it gives them the right to go off roading illegally causing further damage to the environment.

Group 2
The considerate off roaders that can understand the problems. And this group seem to be indicating that the problems are mainly being caused by those in group 1.

Comments such as ....

Great, best we ban them then.
.... don't in anyway address the original questions (if in fact the original questions have even been understood?)
It rather sounds like they come from someone in group 1, and they certainly don't give any support to those in group 2.

Which group do you fall into????

yes 300 has made numerous threads where he puts up bizarre arguments against overwhelming evidence to contrary. It is his raison d'être on PH.

Not sure I have to be labelled by you bu twine you ask, I'm in your Group 2.
But I also have zilch time for Ramblers Anonymous, as a more blinkered, single-minded, angry, ill-informed, self-righteous, septic, biased, rude and generally ignorant bunch of knobs is hard to find.

So, basically, everything the Ramblers don't do?
Anyway, for those who think walking doesn't do any damage, please explain the need to do this to a footpath (in the Peak Distrcit) which has never, ever been used by 4x4s:

Obviously that is a well used foot path and protection has been put down to prevent future erosion - and in the main most walkers will be accepting of the fact that a piece of natural environment needs protecting from its own popularity. They will stick to the protective path from where they can continue to respect and enjoy & admire the countryside without causing it any further damage.
Oh, so walkers do cause damage to the environment then?

Don't be a knob CK. The equivilkent within this thread is if all the path around the stones was fooked - noone is complaining against off roading where it causes little, no, or managable damage. Same with the walkers here.
Okey dokey, so having to lay a paved path across the hill side to accommodate walkers is "little, no or manageable damage" is it?
The flawed thinking from Ramblers Anonymous is that anything without an engine has no effect.

You put yourself in group 2! ???
I seriously doubt that the rest of the members of group 2 would be happy to hear you say that!
As you seem to be so anti walking (presumably you crawl everywhere) may I respectfully request you start your own 'Ramblers anonymous hate thread' somewhere else - then the rest of us interested in the topic in hand won't have to be distracted by your insane off topic rambling (pun intended)!

I'm in group 2, and the Ramblers association are very active in assuming everywhere is for them, and no-one else.

(Mud plugging really can mess some peoples brains!)
I really don't care one way or the other about ramblers or what people think about ramblers.
If you want go on on about ramblers have your say somewhere else.

You made a statement, don't get upset if you don't like the response. I was answering something you mentioned directly.

As you have a scrambled brain, you said...

So don't get shirty with me, and talk about mudplugging messing with your brains. You made a statement, have the balls to accept a response.

If indeed this practice is illegal, I am shocked at the number of posts that support those that do it with all the excuses under the sun to justify it.

Perhaps they would not mind if the local lads used the road outside their house as a race track because there was no where else to go.

My statement was that this thread wasn't about ramblers. And that - like it or not - is fact!
I don't have any views about the ramblers association (although I may now do some research) but a few narrow minded people seem hell bent on talking about nothing else.
So I've given up trying to bring what was an interesting thread back to it's origins - what's wrong with that?

You commented that no-one in 'group 2' would be happy with him saying that. I responded saying I am in group 2, and agree that ramblers association are quite happy to fight for closed access. As for narrow minded, I have given a range of opinions on this thread, but narrow minded isn't one of them. I suggest you read what I wrote before saying such things. You may not have any views about the RA, or know anything about it, so what I would suggest is doing your research before making the comment you did.

I suggest you whinge elsewhere.
