Just been scammed on Gumtree - how best to proceed?

Well done, did they say if the stuff i got for you helped, just so i can get a 'Internet sheriff' badge made.
Yes, indeed! They said I had submitted the most complete file of evidence from those stung by the scammers. The police were hopeful of other convictions, but some of the brains behind the scam were very clever at masking their identities. People from Devon to Shetland and Ireland were affected by this gang. The fact that it's being dealt with by Norfolk Police tells us we were bang on with the scammers location!
I'll update this thread with further information if it comes in.

I reported a case of fraud to them about 2 weks ago and yesterday, they attended the address where the fraud was initiated from to effect an arrest Unfortunately the suspect tricked them into thinking he was 'his' cousin and may have got away.
I have now gone back to them with images of the suspect and I await further news. Hopefully that should put a stop to the fraud as the suspect now knows the police are onto him.
It may have something to do with the evidence I also submitted to them. It was a very detailed statement which showed all the investiagtive work I had done myself and letters from fiancial institutions.
I am starting to think it may be that the MET just happens to be a st police service.

High praise indeed, it sounds like a flawless operation!...Unfortunately the suspect tricked them into thinking he was 'his' cousin and may have got away...
(I am a huge BiB supporter but that does sound fairly comical...)

I am anti-BiB and his aliases which included the one he gave to the police was in my detailed report.(I am a huge BiB supporter but that does sound fairly comical...)
I have been a victim of mistaken identity which led to my arrest (this was the beginning of my dislike of BiB) so I can understand if BiB were being careful. The relationship I have with the scammer is also another reason why BiB may have been very cautious.
Here is a similar case.
Man (Stephen Lee the snooker player) sells a cue on facebook and then doesn't post it despite receiving the money. He was subsequently charged and has now been convicted of fraud. The buyer who was conned in this case was not even based in the UK so credit to the police for pursuing this.

I can give a quick update as things are nearing their conclusion...
The defendant was found guilty earlier this month and will be sentenced on the 28th July at Norwich Crown Court.
I have also been given a form with which to submit a compensation claim for my loss - although there's no guarantee it'll be awarded, or indeed, if the scammer has any funds left for claims.
I'll let you know the final instalment shortly.

Still on hols...but I'll report back here when any news comes in.
When I got emailed the pre-filled compensation claim form I did query why it had a different defendent surname (Scott) from the name given in the email body (Cook). Maybe a minor 'slippage' issue, but it would be a shame to miss out on my expected £1.42 compensation because of a clerical error...
I tried searching court lists but nothing came up, but it was probably my incompetence!
Still, he's been found guilty and I can get some satisfaction from knowing that his proud boast of never being caught now rings rather hollow.

Unfortunately, not a penny so far, but it wouldn't surprise me if something turns up in the future - the whole investigation certainly took some time.
I do wonder whether the different name on the form had anything to do with it though - I never received a reply when i queried it, but the compensation correspondence was from a different organisation, not the police.

Do you know what happened to the offenders? I do wonder whether the different name on the form had anything to do with it though - I never received a reply when i queried it, but the compensation correspondence was from a different organisation, not the police.

What happened!!!!!
As above really - haven't heard a thing or any updates lately. I did try and search court rolls for further info, but no joy.No word back on the compensation claim either - so it would seem that, in some circumstances, crime does pay...
The interesting thing is how common these scams are becoming. There are lots of media stories now highlighting this sort of scam, and I suspect that the police are struggling to cope with the resources needed to deal with them.
