As the plod at the time said, if I'd been doing over 100** it would have been a 1 week ban and all points would have been cleared.
If that was what they said, they were incorrect - it's only a totting ban that has the effect of wiping the licence clean of existing points..

Spotted an actual example of someone with 30 points still driving. HGV driver who failed to notice a temporary speed limit on a road he obviously used a lot - and by the time his first NIP arrived he'd been caught 9 times by the same camera. The magistrates evidently thought that what he'd done wasn't ban worthy, especially in view of his young family. Which seems fair enough to me - 30 points suggests someone with complete disregard for the law, but it could equally mean someone who did the same silly thing several times in quick succession without realising.

In a sense I can understand that. When you use the same road every day, you can become very 'automated' with regards to the signs and road layout, hence the red 'Road Layout Changed' signs you see from time to time.

Whilst the offence is committed, therefore a conviction the right thing to have happened, account can and should be taken to some degree or other in sentencing.

10,000 drivers now legally drive with 12 or more points.

"A driver who clocked up 62 points on his licence is still allowed to drive, the BBC has learned.

The West Yorkshire man, who was speeding, was among 10,000 motorists legally driving on British roads last month, despite having excessive points."

Caught that on the news. Love to know the lawyers name and excuses.

62 points and still on the road is unbelievable. Whats their insurance like?

Must be good friends with the magistrate.

Could well be a 'special' where the lawyer gets all the court hearings at the same time. Plead hardship and it applies to all of them together. Absolute BS of course but it can happen.

Perhaps it's non-existent.

Might explain how they managed to amass such an impressive points tally.
