foreign trucks stopping on the hard shoulder - under bridges
Discussion
Crazy morons. I once called one in to the Police control room in the early hours of the morning, as he was parked up with the curtains closed ON the chevrons AT an exit slip on the M25.
Solution? Beat them with sticks, auction off the truck and contents, send them on their way with a foot passenger ticket for the Hull/Rotterdam ferry, and blacklist their passport. Simple.

old topic, but the problem seems to be getting worse on the M25 - particularly between Jnct 26 & 28 where the motorway has a lot of the 'underbridge' hard shoulder lanes.
about 10pm last night saw 5 trucks parked one behind the other along the same bit of hard shoulder that goes under one bridge - all foreign trucks.......
I accept there are not enough police to deal with every incident - do the Highways Agency have any powers to move them on?
Perhaps as a start there though be a big sign under each of the bridges where the hard shoulder passes under it saying no parking in about 8 different foreign languages...

It's dangerous and could cost people their lives. Speeding and other offences seem more draconian in penalties alone. Either put the fine up to say £1000, or I like the idea of taking the lorries off them for 48 hours.
Probably not enough police around to deal with it, would this not sit right for the HA to take over?

Ahahahahaha, this thread is ace. So many people absolutely terrified of 'foreigners'. You get less, much less, parochial old bks in an edition of Dabiq.
I think, next time someone complains about a draconian fine for doing 34524784268mph on their way to Le Mans, I might suggest that they have their car crushed and that the driver be drowned in his own piss. I bet that'll go down well.

Which isn't far off what happens if the gendarmes catch you......I think, next time someone complains about a draconian fine for doing 34524784268mph on their way to Le Mans, I might suggest that they have their car crushed and that the driver be drowned in his own piss. I bet that'll go down well.

Yesterday the bridge was shut because of the wind, a lot of drivers were grid locked for hrs on end with no where to go.about 10pm last night saw 5 trucks parked one behind the other along the same bit of hard shoulder that goes under one bridge - all foreign trucks.......

Afaik Kent police at least are having big crack down on this under the bridge parking and those that "make" a space on the hard shoulder.
To many trucks incoming/outgoing not enough space.
Drivers hrs means pull up, get a fine off the plod and be moved on, or run over your time get stopped by Vosa/DVSA and still get a fine if they don't believe your excuses.

As you seem to be particularly annoyed by the issue and want "something doing about it", please tell us what your proposed solutions are. Specifically, where would you like these truckers moved to? I expect you will say the motorway services at Thurrock or South Mimms, yes? Well good luck getting a space there any time from 3pm til 6am. What about J26 truck stop? Nope, full at 3pm. A-road laybys off the M25 then? Nope, all been closed off by the local councils or already full. The simple fact of the matter is that there is nowhere for the tens of thousands of overnighting wagons to park without contravening some parking restriction or other. Too many nimbys complaining to the council that they don't want noisy juggernauts driving past their front window and the end result is double yellow/red lines everywhere, 7.5t weight limits and laybys closed, meaning that Thurrock MSA is left to handle around 10,000 overnighting wagon every night when there is space there for about 50 and they want £30 per truck for the privilege.
If you want to do something useful, petition the local council to build MORE truck stops and parking areas, not close them all down.

Dorchester have turned down a 'supposedly much needed' Trunk Road service area with truck parking and opted for the smaller 'park and ride instead would have possibly the only one in Dorset.
The Stoke on Trent MP is 'big' on truck parking and facilities, ask him how many there are in SOT or planned, It seems he expects 'others' and neighbouring areas to provide this 'service' to service the requirements of what little industry is left in SOT.
Between J1 and J2 of the M6 there are "ghost" sliproads for a services that was never built.

Every night without fail there are foreign trucks parked on them. I have never seen any being moved on.

I know there are certain drivers that do just take the mickey and think it is fine to park up for the night at said places. Lots of them though will genuinely have run out tacho time due to being stuck on the motorway for various different reasons, adverse weather, incidents, etc. We have a massive lack of proper parking for commercial vehicles in this country, and the powers that be are often slow to act, or just can't be bothered at all. You've only got to look at operation stack on the m20, or similar events that happen near Felixstowe when the port gets shut due to high winds to see that there is a huge lack of suitable parking in key areas, as well as nationwide tbh.

If you think it will then you're extremely naive I'm afraid.

Of course it is, of course it's dangerous to build motorways with very long stretches between services, common sense tells you that. Its why afaiaa no single other country in Europe has done it. As ever, europe is organised and the UK is utterly chaotic.
I bet the foreign truckers absolutely hate coming here. They run the gauntlet to Calais through the migrants trying to make the most of the UKs black market, lax laws and money-for-nothing, then when the truckers are here they can't get anything at all without being ripped off. They can't even get to stop on Sundays like the whole of the rest of Europe does.
I think only us Brits are dumb enough to blame the victims of our chaos.
