This seems to be news to me, not seen any threads about it on here, could mean an end to the need for a paper license, coming into force even before the abolishment of the tax disk at the end of the year.

The first step in their being able to convict you in your absence for a speeding offence and subsequently get the UK authorities to add points to your licence?

It's definitely linked to the forthcoming abolition of the paper counterpart. I can't see the photocard disappearing though. The insurance industry will be able to access the record (obtaining cover will almost certainly mean the proposer having to give their consent)

Hopefully this will help many people learn the correct spelling of licence

Does this mean that I won't have a paper record of a valid licence? The idiots drop groups when licences are returned to the DVLA for address change etc, so I'm sure there will be no problems then.

"Our records do not show that you have a licence, we can't accept your historical piece of paper"

Will the potential buyer of a private second hand car be able to check if it has tax if the proposal not to display comes into force?

There will no need to in most cases.

The new system allows RFL to be paid monthly by Direct Debit so essentially it'll be plausible that any vehicle you purchase shall need to be taxed from the beginning of the next month by the purchaser.

For the last few years I've been renewing my tax disc using the online facility, and I've normally received a reminder in the post from the DVLA.

My "road tax" (OK, I know we no longer call it that) runs out on 31 January so I'd have thought the reminder would have arrived by now. I don't actually need a reminder, but I'm just wondering if they have stopped sending them.

Do you have to have a licence to insure a vehicle? What if you're banned but you want to keep your car and insure against fire & theft?

Surely then the computer in the sky would confirm that you were banned? and I agree, you don't need to hold a licence to insure or own a car.

I know that Streaky beat me to it, but LicenCe, FFS!

Cunning clue: It says licence on the licence.

Yo Dawg! We heard you like licences, so we put a licence in your licence so you can license while you license. Word.

PS: I help run a dyslexia charidee and our specialist doctors would raise an eyebrow at the suggestion that licence vs license indicates dyslexia.

I haven't received a reminder for years, but did received one in December about 2 weeks before my disk expired.
