I was driving the SLS at 38 in a 40 on a two lane road when a police van came behind me with blues and twos full on. I could not pull over as there was a car to my right so I accelerated to get in front of home and let the BiB past when I was flashed from the front. I hope the van is in the shot as I don't think I deserve to get done when I was just getting out of his way, what do you guys recommend I do?

Don't speed up to let a police vehicle past, pull over when it is safe. Expect the fine.

I don't think you should but you probably will. Hopefully the flashing lights are in the shot and they use abit of common sense.

Do you drive an SLS by the way? wink

I'm a bit confused about who was where but if you were flashed from the front by a camera (which I think you are saying) you won't be fined.

I always thought that when the emergency services were trying to get past you have to make every effort to allow them through. I did this the only way I could by accelerating so O could get into the inside lane and guess driving an SLS a small touch of the throttle from 38 it could be that my speed rose considerably over the short distance. I have decided that I will contest this if I receive a penalty as I would believe the police vehicle would be in the shot.

It is up to the response driver to get past you,not for you to speed/jump red lights etc.

The conclusion here http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
Would suggest YES you will get done and there is nothing you can do about it. Do not break the law for a Blues and Twos

These bloody Police vans that come out of nowhere and just appear on your rear bumper just as you're overtaking as it takes so long to overtake nowadays.

Thankfully it's only a hazard in an SLS.

If you do get fined, I would try the court route and see if there's any more common sense there. It's a terrible rule but I suppose it would leave the floodgates open a little if it was a free for all. Good luck though.

P.s, what car were you in? If it was something like an SLS, the courts may look favourably. ;-)

Thank you all for the response although as I drive an SLS I think they will try and throw the book at me.I know in the future if I do get prosecuted then I certainly will make them wait. I will update the post when I get some more feedback and then after taking some legal advise.

What car were you in? If it's an expensive one the magistrates will probably send it to crown court where they can fine you more.
