And people swear in it.

Depending on context, swearing can impart the desire for a swift response, as a figuratively and literally explicit exclamation mark.

It would be a surprise to me if fully grown Police officers found gutter language either unusual or specifically offensive without further context in terms of threat or insult.

Maybe this occasion was one where a series of misunderstandings collided and we shouldn't take it as an example of either party being deliberately out of order?

In my world, and although I am not a policeman I will presume to suggest that in their world too, swearing at people is more than just emphasising a massage. Depending on the context it can be threatening, provocative, abusive and demonstrate a complete lack of respect for the other person's feelings and/or position.
it's 100% context related though, that's the point.
My point too. And in the context described, the operative was wrong, as was explained to him by the police later.

They don't in my working environment. If someone called a anyone else a f**cking idiot they would be on a disciplinary.

If it behaves like an idiot it is more than likely an idiot

Another muppet who gets his kicks from trying to wind up the police

I'd say the sergeant's opinion was pretty much spot on, actually

Well maybe it illustrates that your world and my world aren't the same world after all.

I don't live in a world where people are routinely offensive to each other, I don't live in a world where it is acceptable to swear routinely, at least not to the extent of calling anyone a fking idiot. I say it would be a disciplinary offence, and I think it would, but nobody has ever come close to anything like that.

Now I work in IT, maybe that would be described as a girlie world compared to construction, or some sector where there is a constant need to try and be a big man. Many of the men I employ have a woman as their manager, not one of whom I've ever heard swear, pretty much everyone is a graduate, an intelligent person that you need to motivate not abuse.

So maybe it is a different world.

You may see it that way but there are many who will see it the other way.

Are you saying it is okay for the police to call someone 'acting like an idiot' an idiot but the public can not call a PC 'acting like an idiot' an idiot?

I feel you're clutching at straws if you are comparing the video to the OP's situation. Swearing amd shouting at someone is not the same as telling someone they are acting like an idiot is it?

I saw it as an idiot sticking his oar into something that was none of his business

There had been a foot-chase - apparently - and a number of officers were involved

If the guy in the video gets his rocks off by filming/ goading/ questioning officers who are going about their lawful duty I'd suggest he needs to get a life

PS. Some officers may have issued him with a FPN for quitting a motor vehicle - if he's going to try and preach the law to police officers he should make sure he is acting within it.

Nope, his world far more realistic than yours.

Ignore warning signs, and walk into an area that I'm pressure testing in. You will be shouted at, sworn at, ejected from the area if you haven't already left of your own volition. I will then put in a Safety card, and you will more than likely be removed from the rig on the next Helicopter or boat.

So a rig is representative of the real world is it?

rolleyes

The reality is that in a lot of the UK swearing at colleagues will result in a disciplinary, whilst swearing to this level could result in constructive dismissal tribunal cases if done by a manager,

Of course that may not be the norm if you live in a world of trying to be billy big bks amongst other insecure blokes, but in the world a lot of people now live that is normal. End up at tribunal with someone who has been sworn at like that and you have an expensive problem.

His world is real to him, but it's not the only one. My world is nothing like that, but it's still real.
