What do you think an arrestable offence is?

Eclassy is the new Policing expert in these parts.

A model citizen who will go that extra mile for his friends when they have been dealt with an injustice.

Do you really need to ask that question?

He probably said it thinking it would make me back off and forget about reporting the 'crime'. Do you really think this guy who had to radio a sergeant to find out what crime had been committed would have any idea what an arrestable offence was?

If filming evidence in a private car park I own and accessible to the public from the safety of my locked car to use in a court case is a crime and an arrestable offence, then the dinner man was right.
So you walked into a Police station after the attack in order to report it and the desk clerk just made some stuff up to get rid of you?

I rang the police from the car phone when a guy (who it turns out was a bouncer) was sat on the bonnet punching the windscreen and screaming. The advice from the front desk of the nick 1.5 miles away was to wait for him to get off and not to drive off with him on the car. I don't really have a good/bad opinion of the police. To be fair to the police they are under resourced. They haven't got the time to respond to or investigate minor things.

This, coupled with the fact that ALL large workforces have a lazy element who will avoid jobs and need to be forced to turn out by the phone/999 call takers, it's easy to see why the police have a poor image and apparent lack of enthusiasm to turn out to lower-scale jobs. Add to this the fact that police are increasingly asked to deal with jobs that social services/social workers should be attending to (collecting dementia sufferers who have gone for a wander, dealing with people with chronic mental health issues etc.).

If this page can be believed: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_... then "The United Nations recommends a minimum police strength of 222 per 100,000 people"

At 64 million people (2012) and 128k police (2014) thats 200 per 100k people - right near the bottom of the chart.

If we want a better service then the government is going to have to pay for it, perhaps at the expense of other budgets. Give your MP some stern instructions.

With the best will in the world.
What did you expect them to say?

There weren't any nearby police.
They can't legally authorise you to do anything that might injure the bouncer.
Asking you to pass the phone to the bouncer probably wouldn't work.

I'd have reversed sharply to make slide off then if questioned about it by the Police i'd have explained how I feared for my own safety and panicked.

To be honest, he could be a librarian for all that it matters.

99.99% of the time, people get in their cars and drive from A to B and only stop for Drink, food or a piss. That is their only intention and purpose and there is no reason to deviate from that plan.

We now have a situation, where somebody was somehow compelled to leave their car and smash on the windsceen of another.

I really don't want to draw conclusions in advance (although it is hard not to). So I will wait..... angel hence,

Why?

I was young and naive. I expected them to attend because there could have been a variety of bad endings. He was on there because he decided to involve himself in a disagreement I had with a third party. This was the middle of the day in a residential area.

Anyhow, he got off in the end and I was able to drive off although I was seriously thinking about taking him for a spin which could have been tragic.

There was a later incident for which he was convicted of an unprovoked assault occasioning actual bodily harm upon me. Could an earlier police attendance have dissuaded the assault? Thankfully there were witnesses. Thankfully I was getting old enough to decide that revenge and escalating the violence would have been the wrong way to go.

Me? It was fifteen years ago! And in the end I was happy to see him squirm in the dock at the magistrates and the hope that the conviction may bother him in his future.

I suppose the OP should complain, if only to campaign for greater police numbers and consequently a better service. MP's should surely also be sent a copy of the complaint.

How long before BiB will take a statement from me and the evidence I have? Its been over a week since I made the report. I did get a call from an officer who told me he was assigning the case to someone.

I have reported this chap previously but to another force for threatning me over the phone then turning up outside my house at 0500.

This chap is violent but I doubt he is a complete nutter. Thank goodness for that cause with the time that has elapased since his attack on me/me reporting to the police, he could have come back to finish me off before the police managed to take a statement from me, if he was so inclined

Rather than wasting your time posting on here and asking a question nobody will be able to answer why don't you pick up the phone and contact the police and ASK.

It depends on what story he provides in return about you, and whether there are any witnesses or cameras to confirm either story.

Thanks. I have video evidence. Does it mean they will speak to him before coming back to me. If thats the case, then I havent got a problem with that. From what the officer I spoke to said, I assumed they needed to take a statement from me before commencing their investigations which is why I was worried it was taking too long.

But if they have possibly spoken to him, then thats fine. At least he'll know the police are involved (yet again)
